Looks like someone up there hates me.

With the costs of moving into the flat and solicitors fees, I'm broke, so having the PSU on my box go POP this morning was not a welcome event!

Looks like I will be out of commission for a while.

Keep up the good work guys and I will be back running missions for DMW in Zeta as soon as I am able.

Sorry to hear that mate. If I had a spare it would be in PostNL winging its way to you tomorrow.
Cheers, Bert

Sneaky, thanks for the offer; it is greatly appreciated.

I have (had) a 650W EVGA modular 80+ gold PSU from 2015. I need a PSU that has power output suitable for a GTX 1080 and SATA connectors for 5 drives.

If you let me know the make/model I can check the specs on-line - as for getting it here, I could arrange a courier collection  - that'd cost a lot less than a new PSU!

Do you want anything for it? Not looking for freebies.

I looked at the specification on the Amazon page Sneaky and the 12v rail is 20A but a GTX 1080 needs 32A on the 12v rail minimum and a 500W+ PSU, so while it is the Watts, it doesn't have the Amps required.

Many thanks for your offer though. If I can ever return the favour, I certainly will.

Good news and bad.

After some fiddling at the suggestion of my boss, we discovered that my PC did not in fact have a blown PSU, but a dead graphics card, when connected stopped the PC switching on.

The GTX 1080 made a nasty smell, so it is clearly dead. Bad news is while my PC is now working, i cannot play any games. Good news is while the PSU was out of warranty, the GFX card was bought in June last year, so should be replaced under warranty, so I won't get my wallet pasted!

I may try Elite on minimum graphics settings to see if the Intel MB GFX will manage it. Fingers crossed!

Good m8 what was the make of your 1080?

MSI. eBuyer has a stock response which is "Contact the manufacturer". I am waiting for MSI to raise an RMA.

albert

They should issue an RMA number online within minutes! MSI are not exactly a cheap OEM.

MSI were superb when replacing my new motherboard with bent CPU pins. No suggestion that it may have been my fault. I don't think it was, but couldn't swear to it.

Glad to hear that you got to the bottom of it without bruises to your wallet.
