The Admins are beginning the early planning for dMw LAN V and the provisional dates being considered are:

16 - 18th April

and

23-25th April

As the last LAN was heavily oversubscribed and there are practical limitations placed upon us by the venue we have used so successfully in the past, we are considering our options.  For example, could we expand the LAN?

If you know a venue that can:

- seat 30-50 people exam/theatre style
- support the power requirements of that many PCs in the one room
- preferably be air conditioned
- has good cheap accommodation on-site or nearby (walking distance)
- has suitable restaurants nearby to feed us

....then please send a PM to me with the details so that we can consider the venue.

No decision has yet been made about the final form of the LAN, we are simply considering our options.

Thank you in advance for your help.

What are the problems with the current venue? Is it the power issue? as the room i dont think is an issue as we only used 2/3 of the space we had .

But the venue is such a good location  ;) . And the power did hold us on the 3rd lan just as well as they did look after us rather well except for our food sigh.

It'd be interesting to find out what the power is in there. I think they just have some overly sensitive trips.

I think a few more extensions taken from the lower bar area should balance it out (assuming that bar is on a different circuit)

Most average PC's use about 250w (more if you have loads of HDD or an aquarium, a la Stryker) but that only equates to around 7.5 - 8kw which for a supposed night club isn't alot. It's just above 30 amp which will make a domestic ring a bit warm.

However, if the bar is seperate, then we are laughing. 20 on the upper points, 20 on the lower and fans to cool all that glowing copper  :lmfao:

Gentlemen, we are already considering the options of the current venue and the points raised have all been explored (although not all are finalised).  This thread is asking about *other* venues as an alternative.

the previous week is good.

Stryker

Gandy, you forgot the monitor.  The monitors use approx 250w too.  So thats 2amps per station, 60amps total.  But yes, the typical ring main is wired for 30amps so all we should need is two rings.... ooher.

I do think the current venue should not be ruled out, we really need to get a handle on how many want to come I guess.  Regardless of power I still think the current venue could easily seat 45 stations.

250W for a monitor! Oh, right. All those fast moving pr0n flicks. Gotcha.

Anyone got a genset?
