Ragnarok

In celebration of the official launch of Ark ('bout time!), we will be launching our own Ragnarok server this coming Sunday (3rd September).

So that everyone is starting on a level playing field and can experience the thrill that is early game, only new characters will be allowed to spawn on the map at this time.

So come, join us, as we face this Brave New World together. OK, may not be Aldous Huxley's dystopian vision but one we can surely craft for ourselves.

Furthermore, in an attempt to mitigate the mind-numbing boringness of levelling a character after lvl 70, we will then open the portal to allow the cross-fertilisation of existing characters and dinos from The Island. This won't be for a good few weeks in order to force people into that co-operative state and the enjoy the early game once more but once people start hitting the high numbers we'll open it up and you can migrate your characters etc.

We'll still keep the Island open for boss fights and continuation of the good works done thereon and it'll be easy to travel between the two (three if we open up SE).

Big :worshippy: to Oldie and Whitey for getting it up and working AND for solving the mysteries behind cross Ark travel.

Finally, if any of our old hands from the first incarnation of The Island or The Centre wish to come back and play, then I'm sure we can work out a way to allow you to migrate your original character to Ragnarok if you'd like once the cross-travel opens

I would say as a cautionary tale, maybe don't name your nice new character exactly the same as the one on the Island, I'm pretty sure once travelling between the two starts that can cause a mess, :g:

I was hoping for an early start on Sunday as I'm away from my PC from Tuesday-Sunday next week.  Any chance I can start it up on Sunday morning?

I rather we all started at the same time to make it a fun group-based thing - and the evening is really the time to do to maximise player availability to be honest.

If there's a strong feeling is that Sunday morning is preferable then so be it but personally I'd much rather it was in the PM to make it easier for people to join as one. Does anyone else feel strongly about this?

Hard explaining to guests why they need to leave before 7:30pm, you won't believe how few people understand "I need to wake up naked on a beach and begin exploring while dodging dinosaurs."

Ok, I've thunk about this and discussed with those on Ark tonight.

I'm fine with the server going live on Sunday morning and those that can join joining then.

I am officially reserving the Castle and flat areas around it (not totally sure where it is tbh but 22/40 ish?) for group dMw building. Anyone is welcome to set up camp there of course on the caveat that others may well also be moving in. I'm also reserving the Light House and water cave under (24/86 ish) as another dMw group area. Again, you're welcome to build there on the caveat that others can join and share.

I know we tend to play together as it is but these two areas in particular I'd like to keep group.

I don't know the map that well so may reserve other areas for group play but that's where we're currently.

Why reserve spots? Admins can do anything but people building around that can do almost nothing.
It sounds like I'm the only one not checking the map and people are already calling out where to build.

I'm not sure what this means Pete. it just doesn't make any sense to me. Besides which every player who still plays regularly has admin powers which makes your comment doubly baffling.

Wrong. I don't know the map at all and I've never played on it. The first time I've even discussed it was tonight. Hell, you were online and participating in channel when Oldie and I were discussing that we both knew nothing about Ragnarok and that's its going to be fun to explore. We also discussed Whitey's request to launch early (which you also said you wanted) so I agreed to accommodate both your requests.

AFAIK Sulky has looked at it a little as has Whitey I think when he was setting it up. Sithy is probably the person who knows the map best.

Sulky posted up a picture of the castle and suggested it was a good place to keep for dMw Group building. I agreed and then did a little research on YT and came across another ruin, the lighthouse - and thought it would be good for the same.

It's not a case of reserving areas at all. If you actually read my post you'll see that what I said is totally the reverse. I would like these two spots to be saved for group use. As per my post, anyone is welcome to build there on the proviso that it's also available for others to use as well. I just don't want them claimed by an individual... any individual. I think they're be nice places for collective gameplay. The Castle looks like it would make a lovely group base and the lighthouse looked similar. TBH I'm not even sure how accessible these are and if you can access them on foot (like the floating island on The Center) and it may be that they can't be habited until flyers come in.

I honestly can't see anything unreasonable in my post and am slightly baffled how you do. I think you've totally misunderstood my post and its intent which was totally altruistic. Anyway do post back and if I've missed something then I'm happy to rethink.

The light hosue is very nearby naturally spawning carrots, in the scottish highland area and in my travels there were heaps of horses and sheep in those areas

So yeah, easy mode start is up there I reckon!

Can we please have flying switched off again for the initial start Pen/Oldie/Whitey?? I loved being forced to traverse by foot ahem, bear, at first!

Also, are we going to decide a spawn point before  hand to all Tribe up, or is our Glorious GL going to force add us to tribe?

I had a quick look at it during testing cross travel and it was full of bats.

We discussed this a couple of weeks ago but because of the size of the map we decided to keep flying enabled.

As Whitey says we thought about disabling flying but I do think the size of the map precludes this. I've not seen the map so actually don't know but let's start and take it from there.

The Castle is the place I see as an equivalent of metal mine or treetops - a base where everyone is welcome to build and craft their stuff. I don't think it's unreasonable to stop people claiming personal dibs on it.

I believe that nearby is some flat areas which may be the place to start if the castle itself is going to need some clearing. If everyone just heads there if they want and start building little areas then that's fine.
