At what stage to do we allow the transfer of characters and dinos?

THIS IS MULTIPLE CHOICE SO SELECT MORE THAN ONE IF YOU WISH

SithAfrikaan

Nice choices in the poll, any room to discuss our votes in here or should we stick to TS?

No, please feel free to hop on your soapbox and spout your rhetoric in here. :flirty:

I'd rather it was here than in TS where things can be misconstrued or missed.

I tried to give us enough options to get a feel for what people want but obviously making it multiple choice so we have a wider selection of thoughts.

I know I gave this poll seven days but with the small player base we have we'll make a decision on Fridayish giving those that pull the levers and push the buttons time to do their thing.

Penfold

So it's currently pretty tight with seven opting for bringing over both characters and dinos (albeit in different timeframes) and five against bringing over dinos at all.

Looking at our player base I think the conclusion is that characters will definitely be migrateable but bringing dinos over is more up for discussion and more votes.

If those who play but haven't voted yet can please do so, I may tweak it out to a new poll to reflect the most popular options.

Milli, Lib, Mugi - your votes would be welcome. I don't have access to the players but if there's anyone else please also case your votes sooner rather than later please.

Remember that if anyone else is wanting in, I'm happy to reopen the original game of The Island to see if we can migrate your original characters back over if you'd like.

Thanks all. I'm under no illusion this surge in popularity won't be relatively short-lived but it is nice to see so many people playing together again. :thumbsup2:

I was thinking, what if you are allowed to drop over a few dinos? People need to think about what to bring over that way.
Anyway, good poll.

I like Duvel's idea of limited dino's, but i really just didn't like the idea of having wyverns by the end of the week because we flew in and snatched eggs on lvl 300 argies etc... And otherwise stomping on content, and I've obviously been vocal about flyers, but im enjoying zipping around on a Pterandon anyway so yeah... Not like I can say much haha

To be honest there's only a few dinos anyone would realistically bring over in any case so I'm not sure such restrictions are needed. I think it's either a yes or no.

Realistically apart from:

Peterandon and/or Argie
Bear or Cat
Beaver, Ankly &Doedy

there's little mileage in bringing in anything over. There are already high lvl argies on the server so now it's just bears and cats.

DuVeL

2 of each like on the Ark?:getmecoat:

Doedie/beavers tames do take up quit a while, same like sciccorhands. Those are interesting ones to transfer though.

Looking at this poll it can be read both ways.

As a first-past-the-post more people voted against migrating dinos that those that did. However, overall, eight people overall are in favour of allowing dino migration.

Personally, I have thought long and hard about this and have just posted that I am against bringing over dinos. The reason why is that I fear the map will quickly become too easy and too tame and lose some of its edgy appeal as it is currently.

I have vacillated over this as I know it's a PITA to tame them but I'm concerned we're just making it too easy to conquer too quickly.

If we bring over our high levellers then those without can rightfully breed from them and we have taken out a large game aspect from Ark. Characters is something different given the grind but perhaps we should think about this - or at least have a more in-depth discussion.

If I had to make the call now (fully appreciating it's not my call to make). I would say that we allow character migration from Sunday Evening and hold off on allowing dino migration until we've played, explored and died a few more times before allowing dinos over. I.e. when we're looking to do serious boss fights again.

So please post below with your thoughts before a final decision is made.

2000 Ark days ago I Bread my first Bear. Not max level poorly imprinted but hes been with me through thick and thin. I would like him to die in a glorious fight no just starve to death on an unused server

Bringing dynos across is not overpowering the content. The content we have is already overpowered. Not many dinos can beat a taming pen. We could go out now and grab a giga with a few metal dyno gates (we have the blueprint already so level is unimportant)

I could build some plant x on a hill and kill any dyno that walks past

So if i look at content

Exploration - We have birds (200+)

Building - Along with chars comes high level tools. Its more fun gathering on a dino but i'm not going to do a tame when i get the same amount of stone from my awesome pick

Egg farm for kibbles - This will speed up the tames and improve the imprint. Its also one of the few reasons I would return to the island to pick up goodies. We have done the egg farm thing many times. Its a pain. High maintenance a time sink and kills Fps. Im more than happy never to imprint and save myself months of gotta catch em all (again). I want to to look at new stuff

Tames - With kibble its quicker. But we could just bring it over

Caves - This is new content i want to work on, I dont know whats needed for them yet but a few shotguns /grapple hooks is all thats needed for most. We need the artefacts but again we could just bring them over

Bosses - If anyone wants to take up the mantle of breading for these feel free. If i had the inclination to do it again its not difficult but its a weeks worth of staring at eggs and stats then another 2 weeks to level them up. They are great for a group activity and give us a goal to aim for and a another reason to use the island
I always saw opening up raggy as an extension of what we had. We had the opportunity to get that fun starting game experience and we have but that only lasts until we open up Chars.

We still have a months of content left on the island, Raggy has months of new content ahead of it and DLC coming out. Also other new games will tweek our interest people will move on and play less. Lifes to short. Lets push and see what we can achieve. All those that want remote dyno doors and an underwater base this year say Aye !:yahoo:

Interesting and valid points you've made.

I've also looked at the migrations of water dinos as if we're allowing dinos to migrate then I'm going to see how we can also do it for water dinos. Cutting them out due to faulty game mechancis just isn't right.

One option is to use a Tek Transmitter . It would need to be spawned in on both then destroyed once used but it is a fudged workaround and one I'd be willing to explore.

Anyway, keep 'em coming. More discussion the better.

Whitey/Oldie. Are we good for Sunday night? I think we'll need have a trial first somehow to see / check how it works. I know Characters are fine but dinos?

Milli

I could do with the ability (somewhere) to get a dodi/theri up to me, as it's gonna be a long haul repairing the broken bridge [emoji23]

But I really don't mind either way, I've not sunk as many hours as rest of you guys so happy with the general consensus [emoji106]

I sympathise the most with the dudes who have done all the taming before, my tames are poultry compared to you 2k+ dudes, I'd not ask you to retame anything, it just sucks, I'm sticking with the all in favor of once them gates are open they're open all the way, we use the kibble farms on the island and traverse the two realms like real wandering sci fi heroes beaming up whenever we need to fetch something.

I don't think our best dino's can save us from some of the things waiting for us in this map, and I love the idea that both maps will get use if we encourage travelling to and from to get stuff or to experiment or to cook up some whacky inbred experiment...

Besides it's not like we're saying you're not allowed to tame stuff on Ragnarok, there's plenty new things to tame, all of the scorched earth dino's in the SW, the griffons and the drakes, I mean come on!
[EDIT] Rock Elementals! ?? They're down there I've seen em!

Chaosphere

I joined the server and am keen to keep playing. I will give you my views as you asked for them, although I URGE you to pay me little attention xD after the LAN I am afk for months so any decision made does not impact me for as long as it does you hard-core arkers.

To me bringing over old dinos spoils a lot of the experience of a new map. It gives no parity between old (you lot) and new (myself + ?others) members. If you're all bringing in high level bears and flyers and I'm still trying to tame a pteranodon..thats just a bit depressing tbh. It stops me wanting to play the game.

Like I said I will only be a 'casual' on this server so I do not want you to take my thoughts too heavily as I think you should look after the hard-core as the priority. But you asked for my thoughts and there they are.

I mean with my time limits i cant play much. It's hard enough running around in my pants while you're all level 70 getting generators going let alone if you come through with high level games letting you see all the cool stuff and do all the cool things way before I can join.

I hope that makes sense...

There's always going to be a disparity between players when levelling is dynamic. When I joined on Sunday night I think Whitey was already lvl 60.

Regarding dinos, there's nothing to stop anyone breeding from any of the dino stock. Granted people may want to play vanilla and not do that but looking at the tames we already have - Argies over 200, Griffins, Etc etc the disparity is going to exist regardless of dino migration. It's already happened tbh.

Some people have said they're not going to migrate characters or dinos over which is fair enough but I'm not sure we should be stopping those that want to from doing so. As JAS said there's nothing stopping you taming pretty much anything you want as is stands now so long as you can find it so, in truth, there's going to be little distinction. If we said no then I can pretty much guarantee that in one week some players will have bred out 150+ dinos on this map.
