So in case anyone is interested, yesterday saw the release of Elite version 3.1 otherwise known as Beyond - Chapter 2.

Mainly bug fixes and a few new ships. Nothing special.

I've been on today to buy the Krait MKii it is AWESOME I've only just started kitting it out and I need some help understanding what the heck fighter pilots do or how to even man them with npc's, but its a shame the update doesn't seem to include a huge amount of new STUFF to do, or am I missing something drastic?

No you are not missing anything mate. It's mainly bug fixes and added Thargoids. It was rumoured the new Squad system was coming in which could encourage clans to team up at larger scale but that never materialised. Happy to share all I know about combat.
