Midlife crisis..... welcome. My new years resolution was to learn a musical instrument, any musical instrument.

I was thinking triangle, tambourine or at a push the recorder.

But Santa had other ideas.

Very pretty, what model is that, looks jazz bass but with different pickups?
Cheers, Bert

smilodon

It's got a bridge jazz pickup and a neck precision pickup, so apparently the best of both worlds.

So a choice needs to be made.... What  style to learn first

Plectrum, Fingers or Slappy ?

I've not started reading Bass Guitar for Dummies yet so I've no idea. I plan to become the next Jaco Pastorius so what ever he did. :D

Very nice. My only advice as a non-bass player one thing I do know, always think and work along with the drummer, you're the rhythm section... that way you don't try to become a lead guitarist which is the worst thing a bass guitarist should do. Also you're a bass guitarists, not a bassist or a bass player, it's important!

Jaco, he was special. If you can listen to his rhythmic bass progressions and avoid his lead for now, and even do Fanny Mae for example, you'll be a legend in my eyes!

squire affinity! i like it, nice clean choice.

Good luck learning.

Itchy

Learn with a metronome, keeping time very important as a bass guitarist, you've got to keep everything locked down solid... Also best wishes, I've been playing for nearly 40 years, still learning, still improving, still loving it.

It's a Squire Affinity PJ Bass. As beginners guitars go, they're not half bad
