I can't believe nobody has posted about this show yet.

I found it absolutely brilliant in a truly scary and worryingly realistic sort of way.  I found the way the characters reacted was so believable in a Gorbachev USSR with the 'party' running and controlling everything, the way that people, the army, airforce and the miners were simply used as a commodity was painfully true.  No punches were pulled in the damage done (whether to humans, animals or the environment) and the time involved in watching episode just flew by because it was so gripping.

If you have not seen this minisieries then kick yourself squarely in the backside and go and watch it.  It is a brilliant series and absolutely worth your time.

With only 5 episodes it is never going to be the massive time sink that Band of Brothers/Breaking Bad/Sopranos/The Wire/GoT were, but IMDB rate Chernobyl as a 9.7, which is their highest rated TV show of all time, beating even Planet Earth.

Go and watch it, you'll love it.

+1, series is tremendous, I've always been fascinated with Chernobyl and what happened so for it to be released in this mini series was fantastic.

Won't spoil anything at all, but 100% agree with your comments and the 9.7 thoroughly deserved.

Sounds amazing. I need to find a source. No HBO or Sky here.

I really enjoyed it too, great TV show if a little difficult to watch at times due to the subject matter.

I read there is a Russian version being made in response to the HBO version that implicates the CIA.
