This is a list of races that are currently living in the world of Valtorra. These will be the ones that I would more push towards people playing, but I am more then happy to discuss other races if people would be interested in playing them. I will also be including a bit of information on each race so that it can give people an idea of them

1. Humans. This is one of the biggest races on Valtorra, they were able to quickly adapt to any situations that this world throw at them. This ability to adapt to new locations or situations gave them a good edge in surviving this world. Their feats gave them a very big edge in this world giving them the chance to do multiple jobs that only a few other races could do, from hunters and clerics to fishermen and emperor.

2. Elves. The elves in Valtorra have had a bit of a worse few centuries since the fey left the world. Many of the race was captured by the empire and forced to be their slaves, this cut the numbers down drastically over the lands of Valtorra. The remaining elves can be found in the forests and there beautiful cities in the Tor dynasty. Elves are the true hunter of the wildlands and friends with animals of all size In the forests.

3. Dwarves: A races that once lived in only the mountains and in the deepest parts of them at that, has changed since joining the empire. While many still live in the mountain around the Valtorra, many have now left there tunnels and started to live in the Empires cities. The Dwarves are known for there resilience and strength as well as there abilities in forge working and blacksmithing. The empire main supply of armour, weapons and much more are made by dwarves.

4. Halflings. These small folk of Valtorra are one of the less knows and seen races in the world due to them not wanting to leave their home villages unless they have to or get a good offer for an adventure. These friendly folk are always here to lead a hand to there friends or to help their communities. Many are harmless but there are a still a good few little rogues our there who use there size to be able to blend in and hunt there target. (I am changing the luck trait)

5. Gnomes. These little ones are some of the best inventors in this world and are to thank for most of the technology that has been built. The gnomes were the first to help the humans when the human discovered them. Not being the strongest of races it made sense for them to help the empire out and in return, most of their cities were protected by the empire.

6. Dragonborn. This wise and old race normally kept to themselves in the early years. Praising the dragons that flew around the world they saw these mighty creatures as gods. When the empire started to encroach on there land and even fight the dragons themselves, slaying a few, the Dragonborn looked to help in the Dynasty. These beautiful people come in many colours and these colours also represent the elemental magic that runs in there veins like the dragons they worship.

7. Half-elf. Not seen much in the empire but thrive in the dynasty. The dynasty is open to this half breed, whereas the empire treats these as if they were pure elves and mostly keep them as slaves. This race is known to have some of the best qualities from both of these races. They are a good mix of humans and elves, at the same time they are also social outcasts and most are used to travelling alone or with other half-elves.

8. Tiefling. The race is looked at by many as demons, even with demonic blood, not all Tieflings are evil. Not seen in the empire lands due to them being hunted out of fear of them being true demons. The dynasty has taken them in but tensions are still high due to fears of them and their ancient bloodline. Even with this blood in them, they have received some nice traits from it, like resistance to fire and even some basic magic use.

9. Warforged. These ancient and mighty machines are rare. They were built by powerful magic users and even said to have been built by the Fay. Made of many materials that can be found in the world from wood and roots to stone and metals. They come in many different sizes from bulked out guardians to more slender and quicker builds.

10. Tabaxi. Kat like humanoids, they used to live in the forests of Valtorra. In the Tabaxi you can see similarities to other big cats that live in the world, there are slender Tabaxi who dominate in speed like cheetahs or brutes made of pure muscle like lions. They want a simple life in the wilds but they now must defend their homelands and fight for the hope of this simple life. Working with the Dynasty they have many roles depending on what cat these people resemble.

11. Tortle. They might look slow but when you carry a shell that works as good any heavy armour then you might look slow yourself. This shell gives them a good advantage in combat with it protecting their body and giving them a place to hide in if they feel it’s not going there a way in the fight. Living near the coastlines of the island in Valtorra they are a brave race who enjoys adventuring. Mostly found with the dynasty a few have also been seen with the empire, so long as the adventure is good enough for them.

So here are 11 races that are well known in the D&D and fantasy universe. You might ask “is that all of them? I wanted to play...” By the gods, it isn’t! Not by a long shot, there are so many races In this world but these are the ones I feel work nicely for a new player also, these races give you more freedom to be who you want to be. By this I mean certain races are more restricted to certain classes and backgrounds, I will give an example. Minotaurs are in this world, they can’t do much with magic and focus on more brute strength. They are a rare race that many people in this world will live there lives and will never see a Minotaur. People might even play this campaign and never find them or see one. So I would not say this is an easy race to play due to it giving players more to think about which can be a good and bad thing.

So, if you would like to play another race isn’t mentioned then please say when we get to that stage and I will give you a bit more information on the race and whether or not you still want to go through with it. Worse case is I will say no they either don’t exist in this world or no I would rather you not play this race since I have plans for them. Any questions then I do welcome them and will give you as much information as I can without spoiling the story and ruining some surprises.
