I saw this game when I was messing around getting free stuff from the Epic Store.

The guy does a fine job of an intro tutorial and he sells it as a space RPG, single player game.

Reminded me of the Freelancer game back in the day.

It seems to get a good reception on Metacritic: https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/rebel-galaxy-outlaw

https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/08/12/rebel-galaxy-outlaw-review does an in depth review and I think this is interesting:

"Before old-school dogfighters are scared away, note that Rebel Galaxy Outlaw comes with a difficulty setting â€" literally called “old-school” â€" that turns all of this assistance off, and also deprives you of everything from a useful weapon to a radar system that tells you anything beyond that there is something there." seems to have serious differences depending on difficulty.

Oh and ship and hub creation:

"Ship PainterRebel Galaxy Outlaw’s ship painter tool is one of the most elaborate I’ve ever seen in a game. It’s basically a light version of a painting program like GIMP or Paint.net that allows you to free-hand draw or stencil directly onto your ship’s textures, and even allows you to use multiple layers for elaborate projects. It’s not the most intuitive thing in the world, in part because you’re painting on a 3D object instead of a flat canvas, but after watching a quick YouTube tutorial I was able to import a PNG of the IGN logo and splash it all over my ships. It’s going to be a lot of fun to see what kind of art people come up with. You can even order a 3D-printed physical ship based on your design, directly from the tool (price TBD)."

I'm on the verge but decided to share before commiting, in case anyone else already bought it and has feedback.

I played the 1st game Rebel Galaxy & really enjoyed it, played a bit weird as even though it's in space the ships control more like actual ships on water with only horizontal control & no vertical, still a fun little game though. I'll no doubt check out Outlaw sometime once I stop putting all my hours into Destiny 2 (maybe)

I bought it. I sort of felt since the good people at Epic have been giving me free games for ages (28 I count last I looked including the original Rebel Galaxy which I never even realised was there until today) that â,¬24.99 was worth a punt.

It's so like Freelancer I can't really give a better comparison. I didn't even read the controls but had just gone and accepted and completed a few deliveries, did a bit of trading, talked to the barman for advice etc. So similar, just a serious uplift in look and the flying is pretty advanced. It has it's downsides, of course you tend to warp around or go into autopilot and just get to where you are aiming, but do get pulled out of cruise for vaious reasons. But you can complete 3 or 4 deliveries in minutes, probably because your ship autodocks. It feels a little repetetive from that respect, but in the end, what games' with delivery missions aren't.

The story is catchy so far, a few personalities are emerging. Game controller is definately the best way to go for flying as the mouse is difficult to get the hang of with the mouse pointer drift method. It supports HOTAS as well.

So far I'd give it about 7.5/10. If you want a casual and story driven space single player with very little learning curve but what seems like a lot of content under the hood.....
