For those that don't know, you can access the console with the ' key. From there it's possible to set just about every configurable setting in the game. One of importance, as this is an old game, is the custom resolutions.

If you were to do:

seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_customheight "1440"
seta r_customwidth "2560"

For instance, it will set a custom resolution. I've had a bit of a play with it and it seems to work okay.
I was just playing at the 1600 resolution which is an option in game and this feels good. I felt when I put it to a custom one some weird mouse accel was happening.

Vanilla Quake 3 is good but the competition mods for it are better, CPMA/OSP. I have these as I have an old Quake 3 install still! I can just zip the two folders up and people can copy paste into the bethesda/games/quake3 directory and we could use that come the lan? Literally copy/paste the directory, launch the game, select mods, select cpma/osp and done.

Some other tips:
* Put each weapon on it's own key. I use WASD to move, Q is rocket, E is Rail, R for LG, for example.
* Aim rockets at the feet, you want the splash damage and not direct rocket hits which are harder to land.
* Use the LG at mid range

...sounds like you're going to wipe the floor, ...and ceilings, walls, trees, rocks... with us uni!

Btw, the custom res don't seem to apply to the menu screens (sticks to 4:3) but did run in game - everything seemed a bit stretched - I can't speak to weird mouse accelerationbut happy to say that was why the bot was kicking my ass! I also found that alt+tab and alt+f4 don't work within the game. You can edit the config (there's likely some other tweaks we can make for better graphics) before launching directly in \Bethesda.net Launcher\games\Quake III Arena\baseq3\q3config.cfg

I also forgot the most import of all config changes, colourful names!

If you do /name in the console and then type ^ followed by a number 1-0 the ^ will disappear and the next thing you type change colour. It's not Quake unless you have multiple colours in your name :D
