I've had a lot of fun playing World of Warcraft, SWTOR, Diablo 3 and Elite Dangerous with a lot of people here.
I've also really enjoyed the two LAN parties I managed to attend and made even more friends.

All in all it's been a wonderful time and I was looking forward to renewing this friendship when Star Citizen launches but sadly this won't be the case as I have a terminal cancer and the outlook for a long life is not that great - on average one year.

To save a all of text here about the journey I've been on I made two blog posts:
https://roy.marples.name/blog/posts/cancer/
https://roy.marples.name/blog/posts/cancer_grows/

Not many people get the chance to say goodbye like this I guess, but here it is.

Hi Roy,

I read your blog, it's brave to share such detail of your journey. We played Elite a lot in the beginning, which was some of my most memorable and enjoyable gaming in years.

I will say goodbye back with the caveat of storing that for the future if needed.

Sometimes good things happen eventually and I can only hope that you will get more time than you are getting told is normal, a lot more.

Of course if you find you want a chat or some bad banter from old guys, the PvE Discord channel never disaapoints, at least for the old part.

Best to you and your family.

Cheers,

Greig (Albert)

Cancer is ****. A true *******.

I'll echo with Greig has said, in that I hope you get far more time than that average.

I wish you all the best for that time - I hope you are able to spend it with the people that matter the most to you in a way that celebrates the positives of life, putting 2 fingers up to that aforementioned *******.

Will keep you and yours in our thoughts Roy,

Hi Roy,

That's a really tough read mate. If you ever need a chat or shoot some people, let me know.

I hope you're able to enjoy spending time with loved ones for the foreseeable mate.

Roy, I really am saddened to hear what you are your family have, and are currently going through.  It's not been a great year for all of the world with struggles that covid19 has brought upon us, but for you to then get this awful news it isn't fair, not for you and not for anyone to go through it.

I really appreciate you linking those blog posts, and as been iterated already, the community is here and if you need to talk or just vent at anything - never hesitate please to give me a shout at anytime, I give terrible advice as others will vouch but I'm a good listener.

But I hope you continue to fight as I know you have done, and to make many, many happy memories with your family in the months and hopefully years to come.

I  haven’t had the pleasure to game with you so much, but still I think this is heartbreaking to read. I wish you and your family all the best, and like people say, I hope you get to spend the best time with your loved ones.

My warm thoughts to you ❤️

I\'m not crazy. My reality just differ from yours.

As Jewelz said, that was tough to read but nothing compared to what you and your family must be going through.   Fingers crossed that the pills work and that you are an outlier with a long future ahead of you as it would be great to crew up a ship and explore the universe with you in SC.

Hi Twyst,

That really was a tough read, so I can't even imagine what it's like to write something like that. You're a tough cookie and I truly wish you the best with your journey.

If you ever want to jump into a game with me, just give me a tickle!

Oh Twyst, horrendous news, my heart breaks for what you and your family are going through. As others have said, I hope you smash that average and can make the best of the time you have with your loved ones. Keep on, keeping on.
