Hi all,

I’ve upgraded my cpu,psu and motherboard, I tested the pc today and it boots in recovery mode, I can’t do anything past this ad the new mb isn’tpicking up my usb keyboard despite it being plugged in and having power.

Any idea’s how I get it to work😳🤷*â™,️ðŸ™,,

Did you build it in the case, or out of the case? It is a lot easier to test new components out of the case...

If in the case (which I'm assuming will be the case... pun not intended), make sure your peripherals are connected to the motherboard directly via the rear I/O, not via any of the case ports. That should hopefully get them working again. If some ports don't work, try the others.

Then I guess you're going through windows recovery. Windows knows what hardware it is installed on - you can't expect to just change it all out and have it instantly fire up without moaning about it first.

That said it is pretty easy nowadays, most of the time the OS will recover itself easily when a system drive is moved from hardware to hardware. At the very least you'll need to move the windows license to the new motherboard, but a lot of the time the other stuff (drivers and so on) should hopefully be sorted out for you.

Despite that, I would strongly recommend a clean windows install when moving to any new hardware like this. A clean slate is always preferable, IMO.

I have to echo what Chaos says, if you didn't install the OS drive clean then you are probably going to carry all the baggage from the old OS setup over to the new PC and the motherboard drivers and settings will confuse the hell out of windows to start with. The recovery can work but I personally never managed to change a motherboard and keep windows from the old build.

I never thought of using google Mike….

I can’t remember what drive the os is installed on, I’ll remove the hard drives and install from m.2 cheers guys

I've never managed to change a CPU and/or motherboard without Microsoft Windows freaking out.
I only ever get a proper working pc by completely reinstalling Windows.

Linux is a doddle but as mentioned Windows generally can't cope with a hardware change like that.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

My most recent experience with this was having Windows on a USB and jumping from one PC to another whilst overclocking.

It worked fine after getting over the initial humps, but as has been said it is much easier to just reinstall when changing motherboard for normal use.

I would recommend a full clean reinstall even though its working. Yes it may work but there will always be gremlims when changing Major hardware like you have.

Oh and what hardware did you go for in the end? I cant see the Graphics card drought ending for a while so may have to do an interim upgrade.

Hi evil I went for a psu upgrade which I am very happy with as it is a Corsair run quiet psu so hardly notice it’s on. A new case again Corsair and went from i7 to an i9 very happy with improved frames within cod oh and an m.2 Hard drive I think it takes windows to get to the login screen 10? Seconds if that :D
