Hi everyone,

Being the bearer of bad news hasn't come very naturally to me, so I'll do my best.

Yesterday afternoon, Blunt, aka. Pete, aka. Morg, real name: Peter Morgan, my old man, passed away peacefully at his home in Somerset.

Blunt was diagnosed with Oropharyngeal (mouth) cancer mid-2018, about 2 months before my wedding. He fought the disease and was given the all clear once, but it came back and he was given a terminal diagnosis. The doctors started him on immunotherapy which worked a miracle and he was cancer free, and at the time of his death he was still 'all-clear' on the scans. However, the cancer treatment took and enormous toll on dad, he required a feeding tube directly into his stomach for most of his treatment, and once tretment had finished he could barely open his mouth to eat solids, and he survived the last few years on meal replacement shakes. The last few weeks he went from a fairly steady state of managing the disease with almost constant treatment, to quickly deteriorating and eventually his body couldn't handle it anymore.

He loved this community. Those of you who knew him will be aware that he was all about Counter Strike. He dabbled in Battlefield and CoD, but nothing beat his love of rescuing hostages or defusing bombs. Probably makes sense considering he was a firefighter - saving others came quite naturally to him.

The LAN was his absolute favourite thing to do, and he would attend twice a year amost religiously up until his diagnosis. I have absolutely no idea how many LANs he must have attended. He brought me to my first when I was 15 (20 years ago), and we had some amazing times and met some great people along the way, who he would then knife in the back - his specialty.

He leaves behind his wife Julie, Laurie (son 1), Jack (me, son 2), daughter Martha, and 5 year old twin grandchildren Eira and Hector.

I already miss him dearly, he was the best dad but I'm so glad he isnt suffering anymore.

Hi Jack

So sad to read this this morning but thank you for letting us know. We all had a lot of time for Pete, an absolutely lovely man who epitomised the dMw ethos. A team player through and through (I can't count the number of times I was resurrected by 'nurse blunt').

My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

Hi Jack, I'm incredibly sorry to hear this news and thank you for taking the time to let us know. As OB has said, a lovely man and whenever I saw his name on that server list I knew it would be a great evening of gaming and banter.

Your dad has left impressions that he was probably never aware of. I remember you guys at the early Lans and thinking that you had a fantastic and lovely father/son bond, you could tell he was incredibly proud of you. I recall thinking it was something I'd hoped to have one day.

My deepest condolences to you, your family and all who had the pleasure of meeting Pete.

RIP Blunt, forever fighting those "monkies in the trees". Jamoe x

Hi Toxeth,
So sorry to hear that.

I didn't know Blunt very well but I'll never forget the time he took the piss out of Sparko for buying ice cubes, "what's the matter, did you forget the bloody recipe?". I still laugh about this now when I see bags of ice in the supermarket.

RIP

So sorry to hear this news. Blunt was a true character and a great laugh to have around at the Lan but also while gaming with online.

I think Oldie sums it up great here "as a man who epitomised the dMw ethos". I will echo this comment as he always brought the positivity to the CS, Battlefield, COD etc gaming servers, and never took it out on anyone no matter how bad a player we were, when trying to support his soon to fail plans of attack. A true gent (minus the knifing incidents) and a cracking wit which will be missed greatly.

I have lots of memories of him and NVG coming back from Leonardo's with pizza and saying how rubbish it was but then going back the next night anyway.

I for one will be raising my glass to him tonight and also several times at the next Lan in October.

My condolences to you Tox and the family.

Oh Jack

I'm so sorry. I really loved that old boy as you know and although hadn't seen him for a few years knew he wasn't well. This is sad news indeed.

We had a loooooong history - gotta be 20 years now - and I always enjoyed playing with him and his excellent company at the LANs. He truly was one of the good ones.

Sending you guys all my love and thoughts. x

Hi Jack, it's difficult to know what to say other than I'm so sad to hear this news. Pete has been a part of dMw and our LANs for so many years and to hear that we have lost another member of the 'dMw old school' is so sad.  We'll miss that dry sense of humour, wicked grin (following delivery of sarchasm or joke) and his infamous knifings followed by raucous laughter.  But most of all we'll miss him as a person and a friend.  He was dMw through and through and I'm just grateful to have known him and been able to share in part of his life.

Deepest condolences to Julie, you and the rest of the family.

RIP Pete and thank you for your service.

Jack, I am so sorry to read this, I am very sorry for you and the family's loss.

Blunt was a huge character in dMw, a legend of a person too.  Always taking time at the LAN to see how you are and what's going on, oh and the jokes followed by that smile, especially on the more daring side ones.

He was a great laugh whilst gaming I remember he gave me my first admin job on CoD, the number of people that died to Blunt's knife in that game was unmeasurable.

He will be greatly missed.

Sad news, pretty sure I'm stood next to the old fella in a pic from the first lan I went to, always had a good time playing online with him. Love & condolences to you & the rest of the family.

Sn00ks

That is such sad news. My thoughts and best wishes go out to his family. Pete was a really nice bloke.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

Dexterous

I'm very sorry to hear that.

Blunt was an incredibly kind person. When I first joined dMw, Blunt was among the first people I interacted with. He always took care to make sure that newer members felt welcome and included.

You and your family have my condolences.

I'm so sorry to hear this. What a legend Blunt was. I think we've all missed his presence at the LANs since this illness got in the way.

My condolences and best wishes to you and the rest of the family in what is no doubt a difficult time for you all.

Very sad news. I only met blunt a few times but he was a warm guy. I'll raise a glass to him.

Very sad to hear.

I had some great times playing with Pete on drunken Friday nights in CS and meeting him at many LANs when we sat together at the reprobates table.

I'm thankful I was lucky enough to know him and condolences to you and the family.

I'll raise a glass tonight as well, the good stuff.

Jabbs

Jabbs here,

So sorry to hear this news, and sorry to hear of his illness and suffering. I haven't been in touch with too many of you aside from Jamoe and Vidar. I remember Pete from a LAN I went to many years ago! Possibly 20 years? Big into CS in those days too. Thoughts with you all.
