Dr Sadako

I have this suggestion. Tell me what you guys (in this forum of course) want of the items I have acquired. I can burn these to you and bring for the LAN. They could also act as the LAN install package after you have done your installs. If you go for DVDs you need to tell me if you want "+" or "-" discs depending on what your DVD-reader can read. I think the install package last LAN worked out fine.

I will create

1 DVD version of UT2004
1 CD version of UT2004 (6 discs)
1 CD version of BF Vietnam (3 discs)
1 DVD version of Far Cry
1 CD version of Halo

that I will have as an install package. I still have the stuff from the last LAN. I will of course bring the image files for the games so we can burn more copies if needed.

Tell me what you think.

That looks about spot on to me matey. Nice one.

Here are a few things we might discuss??

1. We don't have Live for Speed though. Is there anyway we can play the free version at the LAN. Does it still exist? Do we want to bother with a racing game at all? Life would be simple if we simply told anyone that wanted to play LFS or enter a Racing Tournament (assuming we have one like last time?) to download the free version  themselves?

2. How does Far Cry play as a multiplayer? Will everyone have a machine powerful enough to play it?

3. Is there an arguement for putting the final list onto an FTP server like last time. If we do we can at least sort our own PC's out pre LAN. If we bring our PC's along already pre-installed with the games then we can spend our time getting everyone else loaded up.

4. Would it be worth letting Charlie members have access to the ftp server? The more people who arrive pre-loaded the less complicated the Friday afternoon/evening might be.

5. Are we sure we can run CS 1.6 at the LAN or do well make sure everyone has CS1.5 as a back-up. And what is the map rotation going to be?

Just some thoughts

1. I think that is reasonable.

2. Not sure how FC works in multiplayer. Also you need to have a DVD-player or a DVD daemon tool to install it as it is a DVD only game.

3. I would say no. Because it would mean long DL times and even longer upload times. BFV and UT2004 are 9 full CDs alone. Far cry is another 4 GB. It would take me long time to upload it and even longer for you to DL it. Then just realise how much bandwidth it will take for 34 ppl to download it. I think it will go quicker and less painful at the LAN.
An easier solution would be that you guys told me what you were interested in and I maybe mailed the discs through normal mail to you pre-LAN? Will be lots of burning any many discs. Hmmm ... need to buy more discs.

4. See 3. But if we have say 5 games set with all the titles it will go rather quickly if we follow the copies around i.e. every set has an admin that help the setup being as easy and quick as possible.

5. 1.6 will work (knock on wood). If everything fails we still have Halo, BF DC, BFV, and UT2004 (and racing). We will be playing something I promise you.
We should have some CS admins and a LAN rcon PW. Rotation will be no problem I think.

1.  I think Smite & Ron could be tasked with having the LFS free version and patches to enable racing to be played at LAN V.  I see no need to download it before then as it is such a small leech at the LAN.  Whoever wants to play it then can.  Smite - can you sort the necessary files please?

2.  Far Cry?  I thought we were going for CoD?  I'd go for th elatter personally as I suspect the PC spec problem will raise it's head for some peeps with FC.  JAS, did you find that keygen and no-cd crack for CoD?

3.  These are big games, I would prefer to pay Sadako to post some DVD/CDs to us in the UK so that we can get the software via his big phat pipe.  If we pass the CDs around we should be able to sort our own PCs out before the LAN.  Sadako, would you be happy to do this?

4.  The total bandwidth used in the run up to the last LAN was truly horrendous.  And I mean *truly* horrendous.  I do not to take advantage of Crosswired to that extent so I would suggest that we announce the official games in advance (some people will have the games already) and then others can install when they arrive.  It shouldn't take too long if we all bring a set of CDs or DVDs.

5. CS1.6 should work, but we are able to run CS1.5 as well.  Map rotation?  Take your pick from the hundreds of maps we have available.  Shout at me and I'll load the map of your choice.  If anyone has a suggested rotation then I have no probs with that.

DVD format, pick whatever Sadako.  Most peeps have multiformat anyway.

My shout would be to run with this as the official list:

CS1.6 (with CS1.5 as a backup)
BF Vietnam
Call of Duty
UT2k4
LFS

Can you post your comments on this game list as I'd like to post the official list for members by tomorrow night.

Thanks.

Sorry about bringing FC into this. As it is a DVD only game I will include it in my set bundle of games. It was not realy my intention to steal CoDs thunder. ;)

It is no problem at all. Should I make one set (or multiple) that I send to you TL that you then forward to the rest of the lads. I prefer sending one package over rather than five as postage is expensive in Sweden. I think that the starting cost for one package will be about £8 and then adds on depending on weight. So it is cheaper for me to send five copies to you TL and then you distribute them, then I send 5 separate packages. Shipping costs are low in the UK if I have understood correctly.

3 CD with BattleField Vietnam
1 CD with keygen, patches etc that have come out

Anything else?

CDs is better - I bet not all have DVDs   Either that or ship the DVDs to me and then bring CDs when you fly over?

I'd stick to the above games for the LAN, but if you are sending me presents :D

Good call. I can bring the CDs to the LAN but I could send a DVD with the images of the 6 CDs. Then you guys could make a set CDs from that as well.  I could do the same for CoD, BFV and the others and cut down a bit on the burn time. :)

Regarding sending you presents I could send you a list and we will see what Santa can pull out.  8)

Good call on the FTP Server and the amount of bandwidth it would use. I didn't think about that.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Are we planning to test the server software for the games like last time? And therefore to fix a version number for each game?

One or two people have bought copies of the games and are already asking me what version to patch to etc.

Any thoughts?

OldBloke

I have the same 1U box available again this time for the server.

I will maintain the latest patch level on all games making sure that the latest patch is available at the LAN.

I will post a topic displaying the current patch level for the games as soon as I've loaded the server.

I will impose a 'data-freeze' from midnight on the Wednesday before the LAN and publish the final version numbers for LAN games on the Thursday.

Is that acceptable?
