I'm going to buy one. I have a stick and fancy using it.

I did have MS FS 2000 but lost it, so was considering FS2004. I don't play flight sims, and haven't since I used to enjoy F22 Raptor.

I fancy MSFS2004 for the real world stuff, I'm getting old, I like chess, and fancy flying round a few landmarks. I've seen a few expansions here and there, local airports etc, and you get real weather plug ins etc? You can also get fighter plane plug in's if I get desperate right?

Also I looked at LOMAC but I think I fancy the MS version.

Now what I want is someone to answer the above and advise me. What I don't want is unfunny one liners and puns. Otherwise I'll have to move this to but seriously. No threadjacking, I don't like any of you, so just answer my questions- except Red, he can do whatever he likes.

The MS Flight Sim is generally recognised as the best in terms of realism.  If realism is what you want then go for it, I enjoy the MS Flight Sim but don't have/haven't tried any add ons for it yet.  F22 was cool too :D

IL2: Sturmovik!! It's utterly fabulous, and available on budget. Its sequel is available for £20ish too. The graphics are fab and the dogfighting is superb.

Depends if you mind not having high-tech things though, I suppose. If you want a modern one I'd probably be a dope and suggest you try to track down Falcon 4 (even though it's rather old now).

Actually, never mind about Falcon 4 - in a wave of nostalgia I just looked for it on Amazon - used and new from £75!  :blink:  It's about eight years old.

IL Sturmovik was played alot by the CGA fellas (Their websiteLINK). They have their own squadron with that game. You might take a look there.

now then i used to in to this big style! best place for info and free downloads is //www.flightsim.com got gazillions of planes to download. now realism MS isnt the most realistic by any stretch iit is the one with the best scenery and looks pretty if your hardcore realism IE plane flys as it would in real life then X-plane i think there on 6.2 now.

MS Flightsim/Combat Flightsim - I'm really not convinced by their flight model but looks pretty.

If you want realism then Falcon 4 is the most realistic flightsim I have ever played - the dynamics are superb as are the visuals and you can almost feel the inertia of the plane as you try to sling it round corners. However, be prepared to put some effort into it to get the most out of it. The manual is thick and covers most things and you can make it look extremely realistic (especially with some of the realism packs) You really need a HOTAS setup to get the best out of it though. Istill have this installed on my PC and I bought it when first released - not many games you can say that about.

LOMAC - tried the demo and it was a nightmare. Game kept losing the joystick and you would spiral into the ground, very difficult to control when it wasn't doing this. Could be down to my joystick (Saitek X45 HOTAS Stick/Throttle) but I seem to remember lots of other people posting with probs. Don't know how the released game plays.

Is Falcon really going for £75? God I've got full box and manuals, what am I bid - I think I still have the map of Korea that came with it :D

I worked on the real things ( Phantom,Tornado,Harrier ) for 15 years. No reason to say this really...just gloating......i'll goa way and slap meself now  :narnar:

Used to play IL-2 Sturmavik Forgotten Battles. Keep meaning to go and revisit but the memory aint what it used to be. Great fun online, realistic dogfights (not that I've ever been in a dogfight). Single player I couldn't get into at all. Career stuff.
I was in the CGA, still am I guess, and was part of the 112th sqdn. We once went on a bombing mission and I was a gunner in a Russian plane. It was taking realism too far when we had to sit there for three hours while we flew to the target. I wouldn't have minded but we got shot down by Jerry before we dropped our bombs.  :rolleyes:

Right you are all too late now. I bought MS2004 last night, and the south east england airport pack. Just need the photo realistic scenery and I'm laughing.


Side note....my flightstick has a 15pin d-way plug. My PC doesn't have one. I need a joystick to USB adaptor....any pointers. cheap would be nice.

Not many 15 pin gameport joysticks will work in a USB port. You might be lucky or you might need a USB joystick (or a game port for your soundcard or motherboard).

I found an adapter cable but its in the states. Not been able to find any over here. You can pick up a usb joystick for £15 so you may find that is the cheaper option.

You must be a short harris then Blueball.....thought they only let dwarves fly that thing  :narnar:

Jammy sod.

I didn't work on the planes.....was a Sim engineer. Harrier Sim was a cracker to play with. £50million of toy.

Hip to knee length was the critical bit. You had to make sure you didn't lose your knee caps if you ejected. Some of the guys were well over 6 foot but they had funny legs :D

I worked at Boscombe Down for 3 years as a Trials Officer on Harrier testing software and weapons - good fun
