A Michael Crichton, in my opinion made a most fantistic, interesting and gripping read from the book "The Time Line". I loved the book so much i read it more than once, and i rarely do that with books.

I therefore, awaited the film in antisipation... then, it finally came out, skipped the cinema for probably a very good reason... reason being i believe, that it sucks a$$!

Was appauled at how it was nothing like the book, holes in story line, missing gaps, false details in the story.. made me even wonder if the directory had even read the book.

I can understand it is very hard to squeeze a brillaint book with alot of detail into a 2hour film time, like all the Harry Potter films, never as good as the books but they do ok!

My point somewhere, is why do films, ok agreeably not in all cases, demolish a good book?!

This is a problem with most (if not all) of Chrichton book based movies. I thought the same regarding Jurassic Park, Disclosure, Rising Sun, The Sphere etc. THe books were much better than the movie.

Most quality reads come from quality authors. For them to work as film they have to be given to quality screen writers and then onto quality directors. They also have to be financed by people or studios who have faith in the screen writers and directors ability to make a film that will make good profits.

Directors like Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) and Steven Spielberg (Jurrasic Park) have the skill to do the books justice. Sadly most don't.

Add to that, the fact that studios have a  pathalogical fear of a film not making money and a belief that cinema audiences are all thick as pig $hit, and I'm amazed that any good book adaptations happen at all.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I didn't think "Time Line" was all that good a book in the first place.  No wonder it translated so badly :(
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better
