Hi All,

Perhaps this could be a sticky if more people have some tricks to share.

I use an alternate set of crosshairs for my scoped weapons. The Aug and Sig use a little green cross with a red dot in the centre that is visible on any map. The sniper rifle scope blacks out around a circle with clear set of crosshairs in the centre.
I got it from this site:
http://www.csimmortals.com/CrossHairs.asp
It makes it so much easier to see where I am aiming. There are jpegs of the crosshairs so have a look if you are interested. You can make your own or steal other variations from this site too.

I use Fusion Pack Gold v7 as a models replacement. It is nice to look at and the weapons have better models and sounds, I find the sounds make me play better, e.g. the sound of the TMP is better so I use it more and the Aug is a much better model so I use it more. Silly I know. The player models are all in black for the CTs so it is easy to make sure you don't shoot team mates. It's a bit of a big file but the best one I have tried and I have tried many. I can set it up on ftp if anyone wants it (60MB). One word of warning, when you uninstall it the uninstaller removes the lot and doesn't replace the deleted models with the old ones.

On the same site as the crosshairs there is a tweaks section which is also very good especially for speeding up the game or switching weapons:
http://www.csimmortals.com/Tweaking.asp
I am trying out a few of their ideas now but have no feedback as yet.

HLSW is great for listing all your servers and using one click to join a game. It's a nice gui based server management prog and it shows the server rules, who is on, I wish it showed the scores of the teams and not just the player kills. It's great for admins too.

I use nextwish for buying stuff:
http://www.nextwish.org/
It is very good but has a bug which is fixed with a small update. The latest version on CS does not allow F1 and F2 to be bound. The nextwish update changes things to allow you to use these keys. The only issues with this script are a shot goes off if you press the throw grenade button, it's only visible to the client and does not get sent to the server. I don't bind a key to throw nades anyway. Secondly, the buy screen sometimes does not close after buying a gun. Use 0 to close it. I do not find this a problem.

I use a little volume script that does two things:
1) It allows you to bind an up volume and down volume key to change the volume in game.
2) It drops the game volume when you press the key to talk so you can hear yourself speak over the game noise:
It has an addition to your autoexec file and runs a volume script when you join the game.
I can make the files available on FTP if anyone is interested. It may be on the following page which is the mother of all script sites for CS:
http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~counter-scrip...index.php?id=90

Please feel free to add your own ideas and links.
Cheers, Bert

i used to have some really nice crosshairs for my sig and agu sound very similar to yours, im going to chech them out and may start to use them, i also use the same buy script, there are only 2 things that i find anoying about it.
1] it laves up a menu after u have bought stuff, u have 2 press 0 to get rid of it not much effort but can b anoying in trying to get a good start as it meens that u cant move using the mouse.
2] it buys fully ammo for whatever weapon u buy, eg scout, which u definatly dont need full ammo for

Good info Albert :)  Thanks for the links.

HLSW should show the scores more readily and that is something we (Oldie specifically) has already passed back to the developers.  It does show the scores at the moment, but only if you are getting the server logs.

Just a though about new player skins (and a bit off topic) but couldn't new skins be seen as a form of cheating ???

I saw some skins a while back where all the T's were bright pink and all the CT's were electric green. There were some screen shots that illustrated how players sood out like sore thumbs (sorry sheepy). The pink on some of the Simpsons skins has a similar effect.

Isn't there a worry that new skins, no matter how innocently used, might give players an unnatural advantage?

Just a thought  :?:

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I totally agree, in fact i agree so much that imho the "Bender" skins are cheating too. Without a doubt, and i ask you here and now, will anyone found cheating be banned and kicked from the server?

Benny

If someone (Albert) fancied mailing the weapon .txt files, that'd be good, seeing as none of my b@stard scopes work....

The word is USED them m8, now i use 1 deafult skin for T's and a custom skin(normal size/shape) for CT.  Why dont YOU ask yourself if it's cheating?

JAS.....here's the speed information I found:

CL_FORWARDSPEED 9999 - sets the forward speed of a player - *can only go as fast as the server allows

CL_BACKSPEED 9999 - sets the backup speed of a player - number can only go as fast as a particular server allows

CL_SIDESPEED 9999   - sets the strafing speed of a player - number can only go as fast as a particular server allows

I've not tried any of these as excessive speed is often seen as cheating. Most admins have a server max speed entry in their configs so you should automatically only go as fast as the server allows. There is however a speed level thet you cannot go above if you wish to walk quietly. Anything above that level as you walk with the same noise as running which sort of defeats the purpose.

I use cl_forwardspeed "525" onyl cause it was the max N42 would allow but I hear that anything above this casue noise when walking. Perhaps an admin could try it on baldric to check thh outcome for us?

If you bothered to look at the main dMw page, you'll find 2 status displays for the servers which I spent hours installing.  Use the dropdown to find all the settings in the server.cfg of each server.

Soz, missed that one  :(  the servers max is 320 (sv_maxspeed). I've checked a few other servers and 320 is a popular figure. But all the same a quick check before a match wouldn't hurt to make sure we are at the same max speed as the opposition. server.counter-strike.net also says if your client max speed is above the server, the server config brings you down to its speed.

thx m8 ill check it before a match..on other servers

This would be cl_movespeedkey, comes default at 0.57 but can be pushed to 0.59 without too much noise, not worth it to be honest.
