Quote1 Pet hate is when people bring back old topics

Aah, old topics eh? Oh yes. Mmm. Luvly! They just don't make 'em like that anymore

QuoteI find just changing your hosts file to the loopback address for all the crappy pop up URLs works as good as anything. Kazaa Lite have a nice sample hosts file.
How do you do that then, oh master of the black pooter arts?

Benny

take a deep breath...sorry for the long post,
in this folder C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetc open the hosts file with notepad and put the below in it.
Then when it tries to hit those sites, it'll look them up locally and voila.

WOW! I did that and hey! It works! My mind is boggled by the way some of you people know stuff like that. It's one of the reasons I find computers so damned fascinating. Did you collect all that info yourself or is it there for the taking if you know where to look?
Maybe I'm too easlily impressed, but top job! :D

I only use the pr0n ones because of the legal implications of having that shit on my network.

On the old subject of pop-ups, recently had reformat and needed to find this thread which contained a post about the 'host' file. In the course of my investigations I came upon this site which may be of interest to some of you.
