I'm not sure if I'll be able to or not as my PC is offline due to us getting the second part of my graphics card upgrade installed (the central heating). However, I can run pingplotter for the requested hour from another PC although the PC will not have CS installed.

So you do not forget to start pingplotter do the following if you have WinXP:

Go to "Start//All Programs//Accessories//System Tools" and click on "Scheduled Tasks"

Click "Add Scheduled Task" in the window and select "PingPlotter Freeware" from the list. Set it to run "one time only" and set the start time to 19:59 (if you are in UK). Enter the username/password it will run under (I think this has to be an admin account) and then click finish.

At 19:59 the ping plotter window will magically appear.

WARNING
You will still need to tell it to start tracing as I cannot find a way to make it trace automatically when it starts but at least you will be be reminded to start by the fact the window appears :)

HTH?

Norm

Ok,what do you want the "samples to include" set as .

In the shareware (30-day trial version) you can set up the ping automatically. Add the following switch in the command line arguement that the scheduler adds for your task (when setting up the task click the "advanced options" bit at the end of the wizard/helper
/TRACE:193.110.88.20
so that it looks something like:
C:\PROGRA~1\PINGPL~1\PingPlotter.exe /TRACE:193.110.88.20

note the : if you put in a space the program tries to open a file called 193.110.88.20 and throws error windows at you

I tried to add in an auto-save switch but it didn't like that (type command in the ping plotter help index to find the bit I found...) ;)

Which I think is why we recommended the 30 day trial of the Shareware version, not the Freeware.  I am also not sure you can save a sample set in the freeware version - perhaps you can clarify BB as I have the shareware verison.  The verison comparison on the website seems to indicate that you cannot save data sets in the freeware version?

If in doubt, use the 30 day trial of the shareware version.

Good point. I already had Ping plotter freeware so didn't bother with reading the post properly

I'll download the shareware version and see what I can post about automating that to run.

So you do not forget to start pingplotter do the following if you have WinXP and the SHAREWARE or registered version of Ping Plotter:

Go to "Start//All Programs//Accessories//System Tools" and click on "Scheduled Tasks"

Click "Add Scheduled Task" in the window and select "Ping Plotter" from the list. Set it to run "one time only" and set the start time to 19:59 (if you are in UK). Enter the username/password it will run under (I think this has to be an admin account) and BEFORE you click finish tick the little box to tell it to open advanced properties when finished. Now click finish.

In advanced properties edit the "run:" box to have " /TRACE:193.110.88.20" at the end. My command now looks like:

C:\PROGRA~1\PINGPL~2\PingPlotter.exe /TRACE:193.110.88.20

Note that there is a space after the word "exe" and before the "/". You might be asked to input your admin password again. Thats it; click OK to close the dialog and you can also close the scheduler window.

At 19:59 the ping plotter window will magically appear.

The settings above could be modified to run every night if we decide we need more info. We could build up quite a little history if needed. The important thing is to "NOTE THE TIME THE LAG OCCURS" so it can be cross referenced to your data :D Please use the time on your PC not your watch ;)

Benny

Sorry, another question.

Has anyone determined whether the lag occurs only with one player, or does it require more...

The lag occurs with one player (I have tried this myself).
But not all players lag if more than one are on the server.
The bots do not lag.

I think the output file tends to show the time in the output data...
Should we like be syncing our clocks somehow then? :D
