Is it me or is CS:S a glam version of CS. and is it worth rushing out and spending £30 on the game and £x.xx on new hardware to run it. I know only dust and it's beta at the mo. so it could all change. but I have played you about an hour now. for the first 45 mins I shot tin cans pushed barrels around flashed myself and hid in smoke clouds. when the novelty wares off the fact is it's the same game. so was cs:cz a bigger step forward.

I'm sure I'll jump on the band wagon and buy it the day it comes out. (I said I wouldn't get CS:CZ   )

just a thought after an hours play

from what i've read they wern't developing cs source to be a massive jump forward, it's just a long needed overhaul to cs's graphics which are terrible when compared to other games out today. the cs/hl engine is based on quake 2 after all. that's pretty old.

1.6 will always be "counter strike" but source is great for injecting a new if slightly small slant on things. the physics are great though, arnt they!! they add some thing new that has not been done before, 24 player servers with realtime physics..never thought the net code could have been that good! its only time before some new maps come out that use the physics in interesting ways, like destructable scenery, and collapsing bits, that will change routes and strategies.
the future of cs looks great, if at the mo a little too much like a graphical update.
}{8 is not the absence of love.

i watched some guys shooting the car wreaks for about five minutes. i can just imagine some sod shoving that really annoying metal bucket just round a corner so you sneakin around and then suddenly you hear this horrible clanging sound as you back into a well placed bucket. you then walk around for the rest of the round witha bucket on one foot.

i proclaim the bucket the new cs shield, only 12xmillion times more annoying. down with bucket.

ROFL Must remember that one  :lmfao:

Sadako, can you add it to the tactics pile please?

I doubt Valve will charge anything for CS:Source. Like CS 1.6 it will be a natural development to the game. Things will change and some people will get annoyed and stop playing. More importantly I hope lots of new people will start playing when they see the quality of the graphics. And maybe some old players who went off to play COD or Planetside will come back to the fold? Over time everyone will move across to CS:S. CS 1.6 and CS:CZ will fade away, much like CS 1.5 has done. IMHO

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

CS:S is due to ship with HL2 AFAIK so it looks like it may still be a "freebie". Only time will tell.

From CS Banana:

QuoteStill on the 12th it was stated by Gabe Newell that CS: Source would not be a free addition to HL2 but rather a fully blown retail product. In late June it was revealed in a video recorded by German magazine "PC Games" during a visit of the VALVe headquaters that CS: Source will be available free for everyone who purchases Half-Life 2.

yes but also you have to think about the objects on the ground. When some like sadako or duvel hear a barrel knock over or shattering of glass they know where u r! so it does add more tension! Plus i emailed valve to add even more phycics to the objects imagine if the cartons you step on made a noise! Now that would be a really big step forward! Therefore ecah step would count and you may look down just at the wrong split second! Scary thought but these realistic features are going to make it more strategic and TCS should grow from this!

I think the next gen CS is gonna rock in TCS. Though i can say it's already way too fast paced for my taste in FFA. Tried the v2 beta and although it's a gigantic diffrently game, with graphics ect, ffa basically is just being the fastest guy to certain places.. but what ya gonna do.. thats why we got tcs :D

However im kinda dissapointed in the way valves runs the beta, since they wont get near the amount of feedback they would have gotten with a freely open beta,  for alll CS; HL ect owners. Also it would put a much better stress test on their servers, as thatts propably in the numbers of people steam has to handle when HL2 is out...

Finally CS S is only a temp name whily beta, and later after HL2 is out it's gonna be CS 2, and the CZ people wont have acess anymore ...

It's defetenely gonna be the next big step in gaming, as dynamic inviroments is one of the few things thats been keeping games from being good lately i think at least. I mean not much in pretty graphics if a rocket launcher doesnt even damage a small wodden crate... doesnt make sense, and make all the eye candy be for nothing :D

Plus the engine is great so far hehe.. i got 86 fps average in everything high... good work valve :D hehe

I actually think that they suspected that some people would go and buy CZ for £13 just to try out the beta. Easy money.  8)

They will get lots of feedback from the current users and if less (and it this case less means about 5000) sends in feedback than the entire HL community (>40000) the data will be easier to handle.

I believe that Valve actually thought this one through ...

DOn't think so actually. Everything I have seen so far suggests that CS:Source will ship with HL2 and that CS2 will be released much later. However, as with all things to do with Valve they could actually be intending to ship Quake IV with HL2 for all we know  <_<
