Laptop Hard drive

Ok,need some backup on this one,laptop hard drive shows bad clusters on error checking.Error checking stops windows useing these so everything is hunky dory again.Music cds play ok,but have crashed laptop b4.DVD movies(lagit ones) play for a while then video hangs but soundtrack continues. Now bad clusters can be a sign of hard drive death,but looks like dvd player is on its way out aswell.yes/no.
Never come across this particular problem before  with dvd drives,they usually work or dont.Western digitals online hd checking system found no errors!


OS xp pro. on a clean install with service pack 1 installed

It maybe caching to the hdd and when it comes up against the bad blocks its stalls for some reason.
