I've been musing and suprisingly had an idea. It may well be pants but here goes?

It's obvious we all play a hell of a lot of games as a community. We must spend fortunes on games over the course of a year. So I wondered what do we do with the games once they have been played? Sell them, store them what? Personally I trade them in for new ones at a local Computer Exchange store called CEX.

It has been known for some of us to occassionally donate games to the community on a first come first served basis. I know there is a copy of Galaxies I once owned out there somewhere.

So the idea is to maybe set up some sort of lending facility where we could lend out games to each other when we had played them to death. I'm not sure how it would work exactly but the rough idea would be to offer a game for loan. Someone bags the game and gets it for a month or so depending on type (Civ3 would last a bit longer than FarCry). Then it goes back in the pot for someone else to borrow. The original owner never looses ownership of the game and can call it back at the end of the loan period. Who is renting what and to whom could be covered by a forum section or a web page.

It's just a rough idea at the moment and may not work in practice but I thought I'd mention it to the admins for your contemplation. Thoughts?

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I have most of my bought games stored away and I seldomly re-use them. I would happily donate them to a "library service" if there is any interest in them.

Sounds good to me too, but I would have to drop out of the organisation side of it.  Are you volunteering to be Clan Librarian Smilodon?

Only assuming there is a genuine desire for it. No one has repsonded here apart from you and Sadako so I'm wondering if there's any real enthusiasm. Before we punted it out to the forum a format would have to be agreed. Would we allow Charlie and Bravo only to participate or should Alphas be included (I'd suggest not). If there's a real desire for swapping games etc I'll take it on. But if it's only going to be a handful lending their back catalogues out I don't think it's worth it  :)

I suppose a lot of it depends on what games are being swapped. I guess we all like FPS games but I imagine not all of us will be into MMRPG or RTS however, until we ask we won't know.

Anyway, I'll shortly have a copy of Doom3 to contribute as I'm rapidly getting bored with it  :(

If only this had been suggested a few weeks ago as SWMBO made me sell lots of old games at a car boot sale <_<
