I direct my learned friend to this article. Perhaps spelling changes are not so bad after all? I like english as it is with it's rules and all, and I like to write it "properly" most of the time. My grammer, and certanily my punctuation, suffers quite a bit, lpus my typing seems to have developed the annoying habit of auto-scrambling letters anyway...though apparently that will not make my text that much less legible   :D

QuoteUntil the 8th century we did not put spaces between words
QuoteUntil the mid-18th century the past tense ending of English verbs was spelt as it was pronounced: barkt, changd or blastid, rather than the regular ed ending.
Quotewords coming from other languages â€" pyjamas from Urdu, kayak from Inuit and amok from Bahasa Melayu. None of them have the conventional English spelling but they all are usable
QuotePeople use letters for words, C U l8r; they leave out vowels, msg for message; they use initials for phrases, btw for by the way. To the outsider this may seem perverse, but it is not intended for the outsider. Messages such as these serve perfectly well to communicate between a sender and receiver with no other audience;
QuoteEnglish spelling is taking on board keyboards and phones, just as once it had to deal with the printing press and the steel-nibbed pen. These changes may or may not infiltrate the more mainstream types of written English. The danger would be if they disrupted the use of English as an international language, where the great advantage is precisely that everybody can read and write English regardless of how well they can speak it. But these changes, for the time being at least, are not undermining comprehension. Rather they continue the love affair of the English with their own language
:flirty: love your language :huggy:

Oh and this is a new post as it's important. If your post doesn't add weight or opinion don't post.

Unless of course it's funny. Or you're me.
/me notes that Benny obviously hasn't read the subtitle of the 'Seriously though' topic.  :lmfao:

I like the English language and I've noticed it aswell that some people don't know correct English, and I'm Dutch!
How difficult is it to type in good sentences? Not that difficult, atleast not to me.

Rabbi Bob

I tend to be lenient in discussions/emails/etc with the english grammar content.  However, it amazes me when blatant english errors creep in the work environment.  As a manager, I see from day to day papers that aren't checked for typing errors, grammar goes uncorrected and things that generally appear, for lack of a better term, lazily placed together in order to put something out the door.  It is unprofessional and when it goes to other customers or businesses, it reflects poorly on my company.  In that, it really bugs me.

In the end I feel it is a reflection of the person putting their words down displaying their character and while I don't think that everyone should be an english professor 100% of the time, one should make an effort when communicating.

And then Benny posts this in the movie forum about Shaun of the Dead:

QuoteOk, I finally got round to seeing it.

Some genuine laugh at loud bits, but also so truely dark bits toward the end. Enjoy, I really did like this

Now I get the gist of what you're saying pal, but really    Quite sloppy verbal perspicacity there, old boy  ;)
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better

Benny

Touche, my apologies. You sir, are a pedant :)  That is an old post you forum troll.

If you read my earlier post though, you'll see I am immune to my own ramblings.

Well actually there should be an accent on the "e" of your "Touche" ;)  But then it's French so who cares if we massacre their language :)  They are French after all :)

tbh (To Be Honest) I think that its more to do with bad habits then lazyness (with me anyhow). For example, I tend to type "u" instead of "you", even when I'm writing business related emails. I generally go back over and check/correct these bad habits but i dont actualy notice them when im typing. Sadly I dont know where these habits have come from. Possibly emails, txt, chatrooms (mirc) and counterstrike team messages back in the day when i couldnt remember my radio command keys.

imo (in my opinion) if I have to re-read a post due to grammer/spelling/punctuation errors then thats annoying, but if i get the jist then it won't bother me.

 :)

You and Monkey can both use accents on your letters and spell correctly, but your punctuation is dire.

That should read "than" and not "then" ;)  Also, there should be an apostrophe between the "t" and "s" of "its".

Don't post in this thread unless you can write properly ;)  Or you're Sheepy :)

Apparently punctuation is optional.

I removed your smileys to clarify your mistakes.

Back on topic, those that can should, those that can't should try but not worry so much.
