Cache problem

I'm visiting these forums from my parent's home rather than from my own PC. The trouble is that I cannot see these forums from home as I get directed to the 'we are moving the forums' page. From work the DNS changes have come through and I can see these forums again. From home, using the same router, the same browser with the same settings, the same firewall and the same ISP pointing at the same DNS servers I cannot see these forums. Something somewhere is caching something but for the life of me I cannot figure out what!

Anyone got any ideas?

XP does caching

try "ipconfig /displaydns" to see what is cached and "ipconfig /flushdns" to empty XPs cache

It's a long shot but are you using an auto proxy config in Firefox options/ connection settings. This might be forcing Firefox to look in you're ISP's cache files for the deadmen forum index page? If the ISP cache has the 'we are moving the forums' page it will serve it up to you rather than fetch it off the web.

I can't see how it would keep the old page in it's cache for so long, but it might be worth a shot?

Already done the ipconfig /flushdns and it didn't help.

Currently confirgured as 'Direct Connection to the Internet' so thsi does not appear to be the problem.

Any other ideas?

What do you get if you "ping forum.deadmen.co.uk"

I get "Pinging forum.deadmen.co.uk [82.197.65.244]..." and then it times out because the firewall does it's job. However it does show which IP I am trying to reach.

If it gives the right IP you might want to follow up Smilos response and try deleting your browsers cache?

I already have followed up Smilo's post (see above) and that didn't help. I'll check the 'ping' response when I get home later this afternoon, at which point I will not be able to post a reply back as I won't be able to see the forums :lol: I'll see how it goes and will report back when I get onto another machine.

Problem solved. And it was all my own fault. :blush:

Some time ago I had some DNS problems and decided to force DNS by putting the Crosswired IPs into my hosts file. Hence it didn't matter how many time I flushed my DNS or force a refresh of the cache, hosts always sent it back to the old Crosswired IP. I took the offending lines out of the hosts file 'et voila' here I am
