In late March of 2005, me along with a group of students from Sheffield Uni are planning to "bum it" across Europe to Bucharest in Romania for charity.
The sheme has run for 2 years now, and is called B2B. It starts at Bar One in sheffield, and people have to hitchhike or blag travel to the designated destination beginning with B. In the first year it was to Brighton, the year after Budapest, and this year we're off to Bucharest.

The money raised will go to the Relief Fund for Romania. As some of you may know, Romania suffered under one of the most brutal dictatorship in eastern Europe, and those of you over the age of 16 will probably remeber the crisis with Romanian orphans in the early 90's.

I will personally be paying £180 to go on this trip, but I also have to put a guarenteed sponsorship cheque of £100 down, as the scheme is expensive to run and they need a guarenteed minumn commitment from everyone taking part.

I was just wondering if anybody would be kind enough to sponsor me in this epic hitchhike across Europe. Any amount you feel you would like to put down would be greatly appreciated. We aren't leaving until march 19th, hoping to complete and arrive in Bucharest by the 26th.

My group will be keeping a photo diary, and this will be made avaliable to anybody who wants to view it, and will also serve as proof to my sponsors i actually made it all the way!

Thank you kind people

John

Great stuff. Why not create a sponsorship page at JustGiving.com and then point us to the URL. If you make it easy for people to sponsor you then I'm sure they will.

Tell you what. You make the page and post the link here then I'll sponsor you for £15. Deal?

Thanks for the quick replies guys, and the sponsorships.
I tried to find the charity on the website you sent me, but they don't appear. You can submit the charities, but as I am not the event organiser, i don't feel i have the right to do this...

get them to do it then. I'm sure they'll make a hell of a lot more money if it is easy for peeps to sponsor.

I e-mailed the people who organise the B2B event, and got the following reply:

QuoteHi John,

Unfortunatly RAG cannot be a registered charity as we're part of the Union
which is itself a registered charity. I have been looking into the
possibility of online dontations via another provider but the rest of the
committee dont seem keen on the idea... perhaps they will change their mind
when they see your email.

Was just wondering if your sponsors prefer to use JustGiving specifically,
or would they still give if we set up online donations through someone else?

Thanks for your interest!

Si

Not sure if you would still consider sponsorship if we used another provider....?

Thanks again guys.

Don't mind which provider I just know from experience that the easier you make it for people the better the response :)

Yeah, A cheque would do it too. It's just that online is easier.

If i were to set up a paypal account, would that be ok? Then you could donate when you were happy that I had completed the trip, and after i post the photo diary.
