Well, seeing as how Devian is doing some riddles in his jokes thread i will post a puzzle that i was shown the otherday. This was given to me in a maths lesson as something fun to do. It reads:
In a plane flying to London, 5 passengers are seated in a row next to eachother.
Their professions are
journalist, singer teacher, sailor, engineer  (in no particular order)

Their nationalities, in any order, are
English, French, German, Italian, Dutch

Their ages are
21 years, 24 years, 32 years, 40 years, 52 years

and each plays a different one of the following sports
handball, swimming, volleyball, athletics, football

They will each travel from London to a different destination
Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle or Plymouth
Clues:
1. The engineer is seated on the extreme left.
2. The volleyball player is seated in the middle
3. The Englishman is a journalist.
4. The singer is 21 years old.
5. The teacher's sport  is Swimming.
6. The sailor is travelling to Plymouth (i wonder why?  :eyebrow: )
7. The handball player is French.
8. The passenger from Holland is bound for Birmingham.
9. The passenger bound for Liverpool is 32 years old.
10. The athlete is bound for Newcastle.
11. The French passenger is seated next to the German.
12. The 52-year old passenger is seated next to the passenger who is bound for Manchester.
13. The 24-year old passenger is seated next to the passenger who is travelling to Birmingham.
14. The engineer is seated next to the Italian.

Use the clues to deduce the answers to these questions:
1. How old is the sailor?
2. What is the nationality of the football player?

Bearing in mind this is a year 7 (13 years old i think) activity!!
Anyone willing to give it a go. I know the answers from when i completed it.

Okay, call me sad for working this out, but I had to, i like logic puzzles. The only problem with this, is that you cannot work out all seating arrangements, as there are 2 solutions, with regards to the french and german passenger

Going from extreme left to extreme right

Engineer, Dutch, Football, Birmingham, 52
Teacher, Italian, Swimming, Manchester, 24
Journalist, English, Volleyball, Liverpool, 32
Singer, German, Athletics, Newcastle, 21
Sailor, French, Handball, Plymouth, 40

or last 2 seats swapped

Sailor, French, Handball, PLymouth, 40
Singer, German, Athletics, Newcastle, 21

I suspect another question would be required to put the french and german guy in the correct seats.

Of course I could have worked it all out wrong
