What exactly to do to get rid of lag?

Hello guys,
I was playing a bit of CS yesterday on our servers and I seemed to be getting quit some lag. Are there any things I could try to get rid off it? I still have F@H and so running in the background.

Folding shouldnt,make a difference,think everyone leaves it on when they play cs,you may get a little blip if it is up/downloading a work unit but nothing more.
Me and JAS both had laggy periods yesterday.Is your network up and running,if so whats the other comp doing when lagg happens.I know me and lara can both play on the same server at the same time with no lagg,but if she swaps then it comes to a grinding halt.Webcams suck ya dry,msn not so much but noticeable,any download programs etc.Have you tried today Im going on now if ya want a go.

The network is not up and running yet. I'm going to try that out this Wedneday (my first day of the holiday).
Webcam is not connected and I allways put my MSN off when playing CS.
Only programs runnign while online:
-Xfire;
-F@H;
-Norton Antivirus;
-Spysweeper.

I'll start playing around 20.30 UKtime, half an hour before the match. I have to do some stuff for school first (as usual).

Make sure that your Norton wasnt updating or anything.
Check for spyware using the usual, Spysweeper, Adaware, Spybot because that may be causing a problem.

Rates? I dont know what connection you have but i normally have mine on 20,000 85 85. (Im 512k)

Not much but since the server move i have a little lag...

A bit strange but i dunno what to do...

I got these rates from Oldie a while ago:
Rate "15000"
cl_updaterate 81
cl_cmdrate 81

For the rest, today it was quit fine, not much lag. BTW, I think I'm 1024 now a days, I had 512 but wannadoo turned it up a bit.

If your connection has been turned up abit try increasing the rate some, by like 250-1000 at a time and see if theres any improvement. I dont think it would make too much of a difference as 15k is fine.  Worth the try though eh?

Spysweeper is proberbly the cause. try shutting it down when you want to play anything.

So I've managed to get the 2 computers online  @ my place but now when we start up, my bro's computer is getting at the servers quicker and also at maprotations he's in the new map faster. What can cause this?

that sounds like his system is loading all the map resources up quicker.  Is his PC higher specced then yours ?

Almost the same.
But I also get sometimes connection to server timed out alot. Could it be one of the CSsettings?

I also seem to have problems with my console of CounterStrike.
When I press for console (~),  I can type only one letter. I usually type in the comand in my friends box and then copy-paste it in to the status bar.
Does anyone else have the problem that when they want to type in the status bar they can only type the s (from status) and then it pops back to your CSgame?
If anyone had that problem, how did you fix it?
