The git at Blueyonder tech support tried to tell me it was a problem with my PC  :lmfao:

Strange how the response at Hop 3 is fine which is BY's GSR in Edinburgh  :)  The problems start in their network at hop 4

news/comments from Hi-Velocity.it We have been working on the current situation for the past 7 days, alongside one of our carriers.

Due to the time of year and that BT have only been running on skeleton staff over the festive period, today was the first decent opportunity to work closely with BT. BT are now heavily involved, and the issue escalated to the highest point.

A fault has been identified between BT and our carrier. This fault is being worked on, and we will have an update at midday tomorrow (Wednesday 5th Jan).

If at this point, we believe a resolution is more than 10 working days away we will commence a systematic migration of all affected users onto a new network at our own expense.

We see this as a last resort and the carrier we are working with at the moment is running at 25% capacity on their BT Central. This, therefore, indicates a high-level networking issue as opposed to a capacity issue.

Hi-Velocity appreciates your patience and under-standing during this time and will, as always endeavour to resolve this issue to a speedy and satisfactory result.

One day i will learn to wait.

After a fairly bad day yesterday i went home deciding that if my connection still wasn't up and running someone was getting it in the neck at BT.. . a phone call to Mark at HV explaining my frustration at being pissed about by BT and would he kindly give me a number to get hold of someone. He was also quite annoyed after hearing the full story and decided to call them himself and lay some colourful language at there feet. As of today im up and running.

The connection is very ropey as stated for the above reasons.
Come on Mark kick em in the nuts.

This is what I like about Hi-V.  When there is a problem you can talk to real people who _do_ give a damn and will try to solve the problem.  Hot news from their forums tonight:

UPDATE @ 20:00 - 5th Jan 05

We have been carrying out extensive testing with our carrier today and have discovered a hardware issue. Replacement Hardware has been delivered ready for testing tomorrow AM. Once the testing has been completed, the replacement hardware will be installed. This should alleviate the speed/ping issues. At this time, our carrier will also review some aspects of their network to provide improved performance.

Mark Barber - Hi-Velocity Support Director will be on site at our carriers premises for both the Hardware installation and the network review.

If this still does not fix the problem, then we will start the systematic migration of users. This will then resolve the issues.

More updates when we have them.

There's a choice in a contractual agreement?

I think you'll find that this is covered in their contract (as with every other ISP).  You pay the contractual amount and you'll not be able to riggle out of it!  Â£23.99pm for a 1Mbps connection is still pretty good though especially when the people actually do try to help out and get problems resolved - especially in this case as the problem isn't their own but one of their carrier's.

Ah, fair enough. When I was with NTL, I complained to a number of people about the performance, although admittedly there was a total of around 24 hours one month where the service was down hard, and the refunded me 3 months rental.

You don't ask, you don't get I suppose.

Seems harsh to switch and then find the service is poor, irrrespective of whose fault it is. Others seem to be ok though, so I'll wind my neck back in.

HI-VELOCITY UPDATE:
Just got off MSN with Hi-V's Sales Director.  Apparently the initial testing of the new hardware has gone reasonably well this morning and they plan to cut over to the new equipment at about 4.30pm this afternoon to see if it makes the hoped for difference.  If it does not then Hi-V are going to arrange alternate routing for us to totally avoid the problem.  If they re-route us it will cost them a fair bit of money, so let's hope the hardware fix works for them.
