help needed, Hippy's computer wont switch on, we found the plug fuse had gone so we got an old one which works with mine and plugged it into his but it still wont turn on, everything is in right and we have tested the cpu in my comuter and we know thats working. Could it be the power suply??

EDIT..........POWER SUPLY F*****

Whitey

It sounds like the power supply to me. It would be worth swapping the power cables over though just to confirm it's not the cable, before ordering up a new supply.

Do the fans on the PSU turn when power is supplied?

Hippy

Definately the psu, just swapped the psu and it works.
for a while i thought id burnt my motherboard, anyways not gonna play until i get a new psu.
Using my mum and dads laptop to post...Damn its slow.

DuVeL

Hippy

Yes, sorted.

Just if i play it will be under powered.

Ordering a new PSU anyone suggest a good one?

Liberator

Well, we need to know a few things........

1. What have you got inside your PC for the wattage (there was that modded case with the coffee machine inside!!! )?
2. Are you bothered about the "good old" decibel level?
3. Do you want flashing lights and all that crap?  :D
4. What budget are we talking about?

The_Professor

Amd athlon64 3000+
512 ddr400
Radeon 98000pro
seagate Baracuda 120gb
Gigabyte k8vnxp (using onboard sound)
Silver nemesis case
19" monitor

Thats hippy's spec, I hacked him last night to get it....I mean its on the BoD website under a forum topic.

You wouldn't need more than 450w psu to run that would you!

Hippy

OOh and a flashy fan (3leds)

Cheers Prof

Dont care bout noise, It could sound like a tank but id just turn the volume on my headphones up.
Bout £40-50.

Liberator

450W would be more than adequate.

I'm not really a tech-head, but I know that the above will help some of our more technical freaks to give you advice.

Myself, I have one of these installed and have had no problems with it, it comes in smaller wattage, but for the price I found it perfect for a machine running 2xHDD, 3xCD/DVD, case fans, 9600XT with fan and various USB powered devices. Also I leave it on for days on end and it has done its fair share of folding without producing much heat.

550W with a perspex upper body, UV lights and fluorescent power leads. All for less than £35, the fan control means you can make it nice and quiet or full blast cooling action.

Now I'll leave it to the techies to give you real advice!

Hippy

Cheers Lib, i was gonna get one of those but i saw an x-pro with titanium casing and a blue led 12cm fan, but i think uill save my money an just return the PSU

Hippy

Well after 2days without a sniff of CS i started to get the shakes so i pull together the scrap that is mine and Doris' old computer, were talking
AMD atlon xp1700+ running at 1.5ghz
786mb of pc2100
Geforce mx440.
and my new seagate barracuda HD

 :lmfao:

I can play again!

Great, now can you break Doris's fingers before you let him on the server again?

Red_Thunder
