Due to Ntl trying to keep up with BT they have seen fit to upgrade all current users to a fat 2meg pipe.... no extra cost

All it requires is a phone call

Plusnet, my ISP, are doing the same thing (upto 2Mb/s) from April.  With the introduction of MaxDSL we'll be able to go up to 8Mb/s  :dribble:  :dribble: (if the line is capable).

EDIT:  Forgot to say, the speed regrade will be FREE!!!!!!!  :dribble:

I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

My ISP will upgrade from 0.5 to 8 and it will only cost about 4£/month more  :)

I think that we have forgotten to say recently that we hate you and you smell ;)

God I wish broadband in UK was like Sweden.

I would like a good service before they think about upgrading.

Another PlusNet user.

Although I would like to add that with the initial switch to MaxDSL, we'll only see a speed rise (on capable lines) to 2Mb max.

The 4Mb/8Mb speed thingy is going to be trialled by BT later on in the year.  It's a separate trial and is often confused as MaxDSL.  MaxDSL is just the term for a new system to regrade your line to the maximum speed it will support.  Assuming the 8Mb trials go OK, MaxDSL will allow the automatic regrade of user's lines to the faster speeds.

Personally, I'm waiting on the mass take-up of ADSL2+.  Speeds should then go up to the 20Mb mark (theoretically)  :flirty:

Edit: for spelling

Are BT upgrading everyone automatically? or we have to make a phonecall too?

I honestly don't know Phog.  BT are rolling out MaxDSL from (mid)April.  You'd have to contact your ISP to see what they're going to do when it becomes available.

Blueyonder did this a while ago for their customers and we didn't even have to make a phone call, they just sent us an email say we were going to be upgraded.

I've heard that the BT engineers are a bit concerned about the rollout, tests show that they just don't have the bandwidth at the exchanges.

Then again I suppose that most ADSL users are only browsing or using minimal bandwidth for most of the time, so it might not be an issue in the real world (fingers crossed).

Phog

Us gamers and downloaders (cough Benny) may require a slightly larger bandwidth limit :D
