I enjoyed the recoil on the .30 cal machine gun. :lmfao: :lmfao: :lmfao:

Good fun but totally alien to me,lots of practice needed. :D

The 30 cal is a very effective weapon but it is best used with the bipod deployed (go prone or find a suitable wall/ledge to rest it on then hit secondary fire to deploy bipod). The accuracy can be lethal with bipod and small bursts.

PS It is one of my fav weapons after the KAR sniper

 Hmmm, I suppose I'd better download it as we're bound to play it at the LAN.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

For the rest: Can a few of you DoD veterans explain it a bit?

I'd be happy to help with whatever I can, but I barely played it after version 3.1 til recently, and I don't know any of the newer maps. However, I still know how all the various weapons work and the basic game mechanics, which is all a person needs. I remember finding it very confusing when I first started.

edit: one quick tip -

Don't just go for the automatic weapons thinking they'll be easier after CS. In the old days of DoD only a couple of players per team were allowed to play as automatic-carrying classes, while everyone else had to take either a k98 (german rifle that's essentially one-hit to kill, with slow reload) or the garand (american rifle, less powerful than the k98 but faster reload) - both are incredibly effective weapons, and I always seem to do better with them than when I take the "easy" option of taking something like a thompson or a mp44.

Played a few maps allready and the nasty thing was that for some flagrecoveries you need 2 persons  :( . For the rest, I allready found a few gitspots, ask GFK  ;) .
Sorry about the moaning part.

Edit: I would like to know a bit more about the nade part. You pull out the pin, you toss it and only after 6 seconds it goes off. Anyway of speeding it up?

Pull the pin, and throw it on the ground at your feet.  Hit your use key (E, Enter, whatever), and you'll pick it up again.  You can now merrily run around with it until it goes off in your mitt, killing you and your teammates.  Or lob it away again.

This is known as cooking 'nades.  The beauty of it is if you time it right, a cooked grenade  should explode immediately upon hitting the ground at its target.  Great for not giving a deployed machine-gunner at a choke point enough time to undeploy his weapon, unprone, and run like buggery  :)

If you're feeling lucky, you can also pick up enemy nades that have been thrown at you and toss them back...

Cooking/Priming is a must to learn, unfortunately I've read that it is going away in Source, which sucks because not only is it a valuable tool, it's damn funny to watch someone mess it up and get splattered.  Try throwing back grenades if you know you cant run away from it, that's always fun and if you can do it, the kill is that much more enjoyable.

.30 Cal:  If you're going to fire it w/o deploying, be ready to push the mouse so the barrel goes to the earth (mine is inverted, so I push away).  You can tear a hole in someone with it and it's great to learn in a pinch spot.

Another joy of DoD is being able to change your class depending on the circumstances.

If I'm going to go mad ass running for flags, something like the Thompson or MP40 work well, although I have to admit to my favourite gun being the Mauser Karbiner 98k.  I can use it in close quarters combat, or even to snipe.  I love that gun :)

If you're going to cover an aera though, something like an MG is perfect, maximum damage from minimal effort, just make sure to go prone and deploy the weapon :P

how do you change class? I chose at start up and couldn't find a way to try all the guns (i had loads of oportunities as i was dead so many times)

Going prone in the snow is very uncomfortable....can i get an army blanket?
