I agree. It's most definately got potential.

Yup. Think we just need to find the best maps (CAEN is ace) and make sure there is enough of us on to push teamplay. :D

Rabbi Bob

You can play with variables for says:

bind "h" "say_team Dropping ammo for %i at %l; dropammo"
bind "i" "say_team Enemy sited near %l"
bind "o" "say_team I need help at %l and I'm the poor %c with %h health left."

%c - class
%h - health
%i - id
%l - loc
%r - identified (%i) target's health
%s - I can't remember
%t - time

Don't forget to leave your friendly neighborhood MG some ammo :)
#!/usr/bin/admin

use strict;

Here's something you have to practice a little.  There are many spots you can jump down and use a slanted edge to take the damage from the fall.  This is on Avalanche, jumping from the 3rd story roof top near center flag:

Marked the stone for reference.

Jumped down towards the slanted edge...

Minimal if any damage at all is taken.

What's your recommended map cycle?

Ih, just shove all the maps on there for now and we'll soon learn which ones we like. Maybe we could put it to a vote in a few weeks.

Rabbi Bob: I see all your Axis flags are swastikas, US flags are replaced with the Stars & Stripes, and you've also got a little bloke with a gun in the centre of your minimap. Are you running some kind of realism pack on your copy of DoD?

Be very careful about it, after installing it I had some oddities and ended up removing sections of it.  Some of the sprites are screwed I think.  Some of the sounds are good, some of them suck.

My advice:  extract to a temp directory and move things in and out of the DoD folder if you're going to try it.

Use at your own risk.

It can't be a 'realism' pack or the flags would be British, not Stars'n'Stripes  :angry:

I hate revisionist history - it's like the film U571 (or whatever number it was) - millions of people (many of which are in north america now think that the encoder was recovered by US forces but it wasn't, it was recovered by British forces (succintly reported on here by the BBC).

I would quickly count the number of similarly revisionist episodes that I can can recall, but after taking off my socks and shoes I ran out of fingers and toes.  Then when I passed 21 I had to give up  :P

Nothing personal against the good people of the US (I count many as very good friends), but this kind of stuff gets me annoyed.  My wife's family have a fairly large naval history (read the Captain 'Johnnie' Walker links), my father's father was an Army man his whole life, so I am sensitive to stuff like this.

I quite understand your points, but it isn't as bad as all that.

In DoD, there are currently three nations - the British, the US, and the Germans.  Which set of allies face off against the Germans is entirely dependant on the map.

So on dod_avalanche, which Rabbi Bob was demonstrating, it is the US Army vs the Germans. Whilst dod_caen, another flag capping map, it's the British versus the Germans.

We Brits only have four classes and weapons available to us, compared to the US and Axis seven - Rifleman (Lee Enfield), Sergeant Major (STEN SMG), Gunner (BREN MG), and Marksman (Scoped Lee Enfield).  We also get different skins, Union Jacks as flags, and some really hammy voice acting.  ("Orrf we go then!", "Ready to give Jerry 'ell lads!", and the like.)  It's also not uncommon to see 'British maps only' servers hosted here in the UK.
