I'm looking to get a gps system for the car. I'm not bothered if it is a PDA or dedicated. Aldi are selling a system for £229

Anybody know if it is any good? or of any better deals about at the moment. would be appreciated.

All GPS mapping solutions have weaknesses. Tom Tom is prob best of a bad bunch.

And to think they banned mobile phone use in cars because of the distraction...

GPS in a car is a lot less distracting than a phone or a passenger! Additionally it gives you a chance of being in the correct lane early when you are driving in unfamiliar areas thus reducing the mad swerves some people seem to make at the last minute. Additionally it has voice so you don't really need to look at it that much, mine gives warnings such as "in 200 yds roundabout, take second exit"

Couldn't be simpler :D

Actually the UK website is a bit slow. Try the .com website (link below) much faster for me anyway:

Not in my experience.  I see drivers using them every day, weaving all over the road at 70+ while peering at the screen.  Equally as bad in slow-moving traffic queues while I'm filtering past - I mean, WTF are they looking for - a giant hand to pick them up and lift them out of the traffic?

Thats not a case of GPS being more distracting. That's a case of f***wits who don't know how to use it properly!

Quite so.  They outnumber the ones who do by about 9:1.  You know that advert with people wandering around with their eyes closed?

That's you drivers, that is...

It's being on the phone not holding it that is the problem.
