I have found myself wanting to briefly stop/start the FAH service for various reasons over the last few days. To make this quicker I've made a couple of batch files to allow me to stop and start the FAH service whenever I want from the XP desktop. As you can see below I have two instances of FAH running but if you just have one then you only need one line in each.

To find out what YOU need to put in YOUR batch file you need to right click on "My Computer" and select "Manage" from the popup window. When the dialog loads select "Services and Applications" and then "Services" in the left column and then scroll down until you find the FAH service. Double click the entry for the FAH service and then take note of what the "Service Name" is. Usually it is the same as the "Display Name" so you can simply copy the contents of the "Display Name" field using the mouse and then paste it in to your batch file. In my case the services were called "FAH@C:+Folding+fah502-console" and "FAH@C:+Folding2+fah502-console". You can see that you simply add that after "sc stop " or "sc start " in the batch file :)

If you never stop your FAH service in XP then why did you read this far? If you do stop the service before playing games then this may make it quicker for you.

I'm trying to work out how to test if the service is running and start it if it isn't or stop it if it is so then you would only need one file not two :) Anyway, it's a lot faster than going into Management Console :D

STOP SERVICE
Quotesc stop "FAH@C:+Folding+fah502-console"
sc stop "FAH@C:+Folding2+fah502-console"

START SERVICE
Quotesc start "FAH@C:+Folding+fah502-console"
sc start "FAH@C:+Folding2+fah502-console"

Hopefully someone might find this useful :)

EDIT: Edited to include quotes aroung service name as they are required if .exe is used.

Thanks for the info BB, hadn't had a chance to try it before now.  definately better than having to go into services and stop/start.  :D

Thanks I will try 'em out. Perhaps a shortcut on the desktop or something...

You can also push Windows key + R and type services.msc

Good to know. I never thought about a batch file. Though to be honest I've only ever stopped mine once when the whole computer grinded to a halt.

LooL that's if you have the GUI version (like me) and not the console (service driven version). :eyebrow:
