Been practising for an hour or so and I'm pretty happy with my flying.  I'm used to more complex choppers and physics so it wasn't much of a problem.

..flying them under combat conditions though is a whole different matter :D

Lets see how cocky I am with bullets and missiles headed at me  :roflmao:

I'll pop on the training server after my race tonight if anyone's still about.  If not I'll join you for next Thursdays pilot training.

OK, cheers Smilo :)

Actually, Chopper training sounds like a very good idea.  I'm a long time flight simmer but I've never felt the urge to fly in ArmA for some reason.  I really should though, so ill whip out the joystick and get a bit of offline practice in to pick up the basics and join you for some training sometime.  You can never have enough qualified pilots right?  :D

Don't think I'll be able to make tonight though as I have an England club race in iRacing (Sim Racing is my main hobby)

Hopefully there will be a few around tomorrow evening for a bit of action anyway.  I'll be lurking on the server from 7.30ish

It seemed to me (with my limited experience) that the skill level of the AI wasn't to harsh..  I like a tough opponent, it's just not rewarding if you can steamroller through a map.    There did seem to be a hell of a lot of them though for the amount of players we had (what was it, 10 or so on our side?)

It felt like we could have been fighting our way through that city for another couple of hours at least.

Still, I'm far to inexperienced with these maps and online ArmA in general for my opinion to count for anything yet :)

It certainly is pretty intense though.

Quick question..  do you guys only play on Tuesdays and Sundays?   I need more ArmA!  2 days a week isn't going to to satisfy my rapidly approaching addiction :D

My brother is also interested in joining in sometime.  Ok if I just drag him into TS one night?

Quote from: OldBloke;328134Please, please, please do not be put off by the myriad of controls as depicted by the manual. A basic movement, crouch, prone, gear, map, shoot, reload, weapon mode will do for now.

Hi Oldie.

I'm not put off at all by the buttons...in fact it appeals greatly to my geeky gaming nature. :D

I've got them nearly all set up now anyway.  I've been playing Flashpoint since it came out in the good old days, only in single player mind.  I've played nothing else but ArmA 2 Free for the last week online, so I'm pretty well sorted.   I still die a lot, but that's probably down more to the rather rushed style of gameplay and lack of teamwork on many public servers.

With teamspeak, some rather more thoughtful players and someone to bark orders at me I should be just fine :)

Only thing is, I don't have the original ArmA 2...   only Operation Arrowhead and the BAF add-on.   Do you generally play missions that are going to require ArmA 2 as well?   I must say I personally prefer the OA maps/landscape, but I'll fork out for ArmA 2 as well if required.  Wont be for a week or two though, I've spent my gaming fund budget.

Look forward to it anyway.

Quote from: Benny;3280849.99 on Steam at the moment, you'd be a fool not to!

I wouldn't like to be called a fool, so I grabbed it along with the BAF addon.  It was to cheap to resist!

I'm pretty new to ArmA online (only really started getting into it last week with the ArmA 2 Free game) but am looking to play it in a more organised manner, so as a former member of DMr I thought this would be the best place to come :)

Hope to join you soon.  Treat the noob gently pls :flirty:

NetKar - Assetto corsa / Race2Play reports etc.

Moose's Race2Play Year/season summary.

Well, glad that season is over ;) Luckily the new season kicks straight off this weekend, so there's no time for me to mope over what has just passed.

Loosing two titles in two weeks was gutting to say the least despite the fact I'd only driven half the season in each class. Coupled with my worst moment in sim racing (stalling on the grid in the final race of the season) it hasn't been my favorite few weeks in racing, but it's onwards and upwards time.

Our first year at R2P has been pretty bloody good when you look at it.

We've competed in 6 series, winning the team title in 5 of them. Katsu and I have picked up a drivers title each.
If i hadn't had my time off sim racing I'm sure we'd have taken all 6 team titles and i could have had another drivers title.

Katsu's pace has got better and better as the season progressed, which is great for me as it gives me more motivation to try harder. Ron got to the point of enjoying winged single seaters :) and Jarkko finally didn't have a lonely race! . It's all looking good for the future.

Lets make 2010 even better. Hopefully we'll have Obsolum and Gnomie come back to some netKar racing this year as well.
It looks like netKar at R2P has really taken off now.  Bigger grids and generally much better driving standards are making it a lot better place to race, and a good stable version of netKar has helped :)  so it should be a great year to come for us netKar lovers.

The action kicks off with 3 days of racing in a row from Saturday. (which is a bit much imo) I'll be doing plenty of practice this week to make sure I'm up to speed in all three cars.

Quote from: Gnomie;298881Stuart, it would be pretty awesome to see how you'd fare against the "top guns" in iRacing. I know a lot of them run the Dallara too! You pretty much dominate everything in nKP, but maybe you'd find more competition in in iRacing..? :)

From my last experience in iRacing i can safely say I'm a top 5%er.   I'll never beat the Towlers/Volker's/Huttu's of this world but i held my own against what i call the semi-aliens, Andre Gomes, Florien Goddard (sp?) etc.

I could always get myself on the first page of the top times, and as long as i could avoid getting taken out i usually finished on the podium in races.  That's good enough for me :)

If they change the car used in the pro series next time to a single seater then i really would be more motivated to give iRacing another go, as i have no doubt i can qualify for it and do fairly well.

Having said that i found the whole iRacing experience rather tedious last time.  Even though i was doing well at it there's something about it (that i just cant put my finger on) that didn't excite me in the slightest.  Never have i got so bored of a good sim so quickly.

Quote from: vobler;298874The tracks and cars was suggested  to attract those that does not have much content yet.

Yeah, i understand what were doing there.

Quote from: vobler;298874I assumed that only Doors/Gnomie had much content beyond the basic package, I didn't know you had bought everything.

I have a nice little track collection.    I kept buying tracks for the 24hours of fun races, just so i could get away from the basic content. :)  Crazy really as all i ever got out of them was...well, 24 hours of fun...never to be raced again.

Quote from: vobler;298874Anyway I think the Dallara, DP and C6R is too much to handle for new people even with some sim experience.

The C6R is definitely a bit tricky for everyone, but i personally think it's because the tyre physics are flawed, though it could just be because the FFB is horrible with that car, power steering in iRacing feels awful..it gives you very little..err, feedback.  I cant feel what the tyres are doing at all, no matter what FFB strength i use.  I find driving on the limit with that car is pure guesswork.

I really don't think the Dallara is hard to drive at all.  Tricky to drive it right on the limit for sure, but it's easy to get around the track without throwing it off.  Far easier than the Skippy or the SRF for instance.
I cant think of one thing about the Dallara that i don't like. It's the best single seater in sim racing!

Quote from: Gnomie;298870Stu, the biggest change seems to be that the Skippy now uses seven tracks which are not included in the basic package.

 Great, that's more like it!

Quote from: vobler;298861Anyone interested?

Sorry.  I may be re subbing soon, but the cars/tracks you've chosen are of no interest to me.  (Well, i love the Skippy but have no interest in the others)

If i never drove Lime Rock or Summit point again it would be too soon :narnar:

That was one of the reasons i got bored of iRacing so soon....  same old tracks over and over, no imagination in the schedules at all from season to season.

Has that changed?  Do they mix the tracks up a bit from season to season now?
