Jabbs here,

So sorry to hear this news, and sorry to hear of his illness and suffering. I haven't been in touch with too many of you aside from Jamoe and Vidar. I remember Pete from a LAN I went to many years ago! Possibly 20 years? Big into CS in those days too. Thoughts with you all.

Yes, yes, yes. I know it's been a while. Just a few months, er years, or is that decades???? Long story short I haven't gamed much in the last 10-15 years. Just some WoW. Recently really enjoyed the New World closed and open betas. So when I get a moment, I'll be on New World! Hope you oldies are all okay!

Hi Del

There were a few!

Ask was one (still survives actually) although technically it's a global search engine.
Webcrawler has been around for a VERY long time - probably as much as 15 years?
Infoseek - no longer exists to my knowledge but the web archive has Infoseek archived is an interesting site as it keeps 'old' versions of sites which you can browse
Lycos - popularly coined the phrase 'Go get it' (there logo featured/features a dog)
Altavista is still going and has been around for 15 years or so too

I'm not sure off the top of my head whether any of these have been taken over by another larger company though - some research might be required ;-)

R.I.P CS:S  :(

I haven't played ANY games for ages but CS:S is the one I come back to again and again.  I understand the reasons for letting the old man go and like many others, it was CS:S that brought me to dMw.

I too am hoping for a new CS sometime soon :)

Won't be at the LAN but will do my damndest to get to the final Friday :D

Guys, I think it might be best to take my name from the list :( I can't see myself attending due to stuff going on.  Perhaps it's partly cos my internet is still rubbish so i havent gamed for a while or perhaps its because ive met someone and my spare time is focussed elsewhere?

Quote"And, if last night's searches are any indication, Boston's Robert Hornick is probably out shopping right now for the spaghetti and clam sauce he'll be cooking tonight."

"Either that, or hunting down that blond coworker of his, Samantha, whose Picasa photos he stares at every night," Brin added.

Do you have MAC address wireless security switched ON in the router?  If so and the laptop MAC addresses are not configured in the MAC address settings of the router, then this 169(etc) IP address will be configured and therefore not able to get to the Internet.

Quote from: kregoron;303151its kinda difficult to do with the drive not being detected by the bios ;)
But seagates own diagnostics might be able to do so.

Yeah, what that Jabbs guy said ;-)

Might be worth trying a HDD diagnostics tool to see what comes up.  There might be s Seagate tool for the purpose.

You might want to chuck the drive in another pc and run chkdsk too
