Well I finally decided on my upgrade. Went for an iPhone in the end and it's awesome. I am actually using to reply to this post. :)

As I told you on MSN and steam chat the HTC is the way to go. I'm just leaving this here as an I told you so (not to change your mind as you've made the purchase). Especially with regards to the flash support you wanted apple isn't planning on supporting in whereas the Hero does. Again just saying. Having used a 3GS I'm sure you won't kick yourself, I just don't think you'll know what you're missing.

On top of that, anyone using a touch screen phone in 2010 should be on capacitive, so that rules it down to the iPhone or the Hero for the most part, the iPhone is a good step towards how a phone should be however so I don't think you'll regret it...happy 2010.

Way to go iPhone, double post :D

Seriously the only two issues I have with the iPhone is that

1. You have to use iTunes to get the most out of it, which is a shockingly awful piece of software on a Windows PC
2. It cannot multi-task. Smart phones have become mini computers and any computer that cannot have more than one application open at a time is functionally broken IMHO.

Still it's got a dream interface and thousands of apps to play around with (even if you can only use them one at a time  )

Right now? Hero.

After 5th Jan? Nexus One/Google Phone *

* the HD2 spec'd Android (might be a bit pricey tho')

Yeah the hero is what many of us have and screen wise it's the best competition for the iPhone. However as Oldie says several leaks (and an unspecified press conference by google) have all but confirmed the googlephone is coming out on the 5th. It's worth seeing the offering before buying a phone.

Having said that however it will only be available online direct from google, so I'm not sure how subsidies will work etc. Without them you're looking at upto Ã,£500 of phone.

:lmfao:

hehe.

You're right about the single application thing - it can be annoying (especially when switching between apps like co-pilot which take a while to boot up).

I don't have a problem with iTunes. It's ok once you get used to it - however I don't tend to change much at any one time with it. I guess if you're regularly changing your music etc then it could be a pain.

All-in-all though it suits me just fine :)

It's very much about how you grow into a smart phone. I don't (can't) play many 3D games on my Hero due to limitations running applications directly from the SD cards (enforced by the Android OS for reasons I don't fully understand). So I stick to Tetris and Solitaire. I'm sure iPhone users are zooming about in racing cars, speed boats and the like. However as I can jump back and forward between apps at will I've got into the habit of using information apps all the time when I'm out and about. iPhone users probably don't spent a lot of time using these augmented reality apps as the Apple OS stops them from feeding information back and forward between them.

Horses for courses.

This iPhone not being multitasking is confusing me a little.

Does this mean that you can't (say) listen to music and get route directions at the same time?  This sounds incredible that you can't run more than one application at the same if it's true!

Even your basic mobile phones that have a radio for instance built in can also run other applications while you listen!

No I'm sure you can play music and type an e-mail at the same time on the iPhone. I am referring more to apps.

On the Hero I can have for example Google Maps, the web browser and e-mail all open and running at the same time. I can then flick seamlessly back and forward between them cutting and pasting information between apps as I go. So I can find a place in Google Maps, read a review on the web and e-mail the location to a friend. All the time I have my Bubble Baster game paused while I'm doing this.

On the iPhone I would have to completely shut down the game while I checked the web and shut down the web while I checked the maps. For some it's not a big deal at all and for others it's a complete deal breaker. It really depends on how you use a Smart Phone and the features it offers.
