Guys,

I'm working with OB and TL to try and identify the root cause of the problems we were experiencing at the last LAN.

For those of you that were there, can you please tell me:

O/S:
Were you able to see other Attendees on Network:
Could you see / join network servers including COD4:

Thanks for your response. Together we can resolve the problems of the last LAN!!

O/S: W7
Were you able to see other Attendees on Network: Some but not all.. In addition, I could not get through to everyone's shared drives.
Could you see / join network servers including COD4: I could not see all network servers including COD4 but by using HLSW, I could.

TeaLeaf

Vista 32 Ultimate - did not spend much time browsing but had no issues connecting to anything game server wise.  Did not try share drives.

W7 Professional

W7 Pro.

I could see most game servers, but a few refused to show up in-game (COD4 was a problem for me, if memory serves). I could see every LAN server using HLSW, and join them without problems.

Most shares showed up on the network for me, but most were inaccessible. I'll put this down to Vista/W7 restricting share access by default, and firewalls blocking access.

I shared out a couple of folders from my PC during the LAN, and I didn't find anyone who couldn't see/access them.

I was late to the gaming arena due to 'unforeseen circumstances' but spent some time with Whitey trying to get an ArmA server up and visible to a bunch of folks wanting to play. We tried hosting on my PC, Blunt's PC and even on the LAN server. All combos resulted in variations of people who could and couldn't see the server.

It was at this time that I discovered that by switching off my firewall (NOD32) I was either able to see someone else's server or they could see mine (memory is a bit vague on this). But that's a clue and it's worth noting that not once did my NOD firewall pop up the usual accept/reject connection dialogue box.

some people including me could not get onto the ts server, after some fiddling i set up a permission in windows firewall  for ts and it worked great after that, that was on vis 64, it also worked on teas laptop which was win7 but we couldn't get lame duck's win7 to connect, even after tweaking, strange as we could all connect to the on-line version just not the lan server

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Win 7 64 bit Pro.
CS:S, Arma II and L4D2 were all fine. I did need to get to the L4D2 server through a desk-top link rather than seeing anything in Steam. However I didn't try to connect to the CoD4 servers so cannot comment on them.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.
