precaching resorce prob

Help.......................

My computer stop half way throgh when is starts its precaching resorce thing on condition zero any one got any ideas on how to slove this problem ?

Is it a Steam issue or an XP problem.... soz ya post is not that clear :)

I cant remember a time when i have seen "precaching resorce"  :(  on steam

I get that sometimes Swiss. Cancel the attempt and retry does it for me.

It's the box with the moving bar you get after you've clicked to join a server.

On some servers this occurs frequently with me. This is because as they have outlined above it may be a xp issue but i think you should check your taskbar for opened programs. Sometimes zonealarm blocks me from loading sites and games, so carefully go through which programs are running and have any been recently installed to start this problem! Hope this helps

I had a call from Swiss tonight and this problem is still bugging him.  Can someone shed some light on this and help him get a resolution?

AFAIAA he has tried a total reinstal of Steam (folders deleted et al).  He can browse the internet no problem, but when the precaching of resources kicks off it just hangs and never finishes.  Task Manager says 'Steam CZ Not Responding'.  The computer also hangs.

Anyone any clues for Swiss here?  he's about to throw the PC out of the window.......

Do what Oldie sayed and try and delete the BLOBfile and start again (keep the BLOBfile just incase if something goes wrong).

Did some googling and most of the freeze ups during precache  are due to steam downloading updates.I know it aint this but its all I could find atm,sorry. :(

Many thanks for all your help got it sorted out now it was when it says its finished the update it lies lol so i waited for it to get to 100% and all is fine.

But i have another problem i still cant shoot straight any help plz lol.  :blush:
