The team race is still in my mind. I tryed to put down the possible options for the start order. At least it is easier to decide when you can see them written. And it is better to whine now than just before the race :rolleyes: These are just for discussion.


3 options mentioned currently
* 2 man teams (could be more and these are extendable)
* In all these the qualification might decide who you pair with

Not in any particular order...
1a.
* Every man drives for the team
* Team starting order is decided by the average of the times

+ all times matter and the starting order best matches the team's combined speed
+ which driver starts has no effect in start order
+ => team tactics
- requires manual calculation (spreadsheet etc)
- have to reorder the grid in the entry screen

1b.
* Every man drives for the team
* Team starting order is decided by the best of the times despite which one starts

+ no calculation needed
+ which driver starts has no effect in start order
+ => team tactics
- have to reorder the grid in the entry screen
- The slower driver's time has no effect in order

2.
* Every man drives for himself (kind of)
* Team starting order is the start order of the team's starting man

+ no calculation
+ no reorder
- only the starting man's time has meaning
- => NO team tactics


How to split the share how much each man drives? Maybe a pitting window of e.g 5 laps middle of the race
when you have to pit and change drivers? (The shorter the race the smaller the window)

No team tactics? There'd be no point in a team if you don't have to work as one. I can make separate ventrilo rooms for each team so the plans would be secret. :norty:

I like the idea of adding a team race, we could run it in our normal Thursday night long race. why not pair the fastest driver with the slowest and work towards the middle.
 
Team tactics are a must. I'm not sure what tactics can be implemented, but it will be interesting to find out.

What the...heck do you have idea how much time I put to compose that list and then nobody understands a thing. :crying:

I tryed to list the 3 versions people have talked how the qualifying could be done and what are pros and cons of them (+=good thing and -=bad thing). The mentioned team tactic is only to tell if the team tactic can be used fully in the starting order by choosing who is the starting person and who is the 2nd leg driver. For example if you have the 1st place and the last place to choose from, I bet 99% would choose the pole position (as is the case when you match the fastest and the slowest guy). EDIT: In the other things teams can tactic as much as they like in all 3 systems.

Calculation is needed if you want the average times and reordering is needed if the starting order is tweaked in any way. Only in the choise number 2, there is no reordering needed as the 2nd leg drivers just drop themselves off from the grid.

Now did that make it any clearer?

The list was purely for discussion. Which I think would be good because I don't have an idea what is the system we are going to use and what everybody is wanting.

Yep, that would be great as it wouldn't work if all the teams were talking over each other. And spying too...although I have heard they spy each other in F1 anyway :norty:

Thursday night wouldn't change. Just there would be a constructors championship as well. Teams could change every 3/4 months, for the start of a new session, if drivers improve.

Aquilifer, you're taking this way too seriously :D This isn't a new regular thing, it's just a one off to see if it can work at all so the format needs to be simple.

Yes, I know. Just a trial if it could work more often. I was just thinking we could put few thoughts into it how to make it as even as possible as that could be an important factor how fun it is. Also this would have more possibilities to make it more even than the normal races. And the ideas I listed are simple, it's just difficult to write them down in a simple way.

Thx for the input Aquilifer, it's just a bit premature. If the test races works out then your ideas and scripting skillz will definitely be needed, but at the moment I'm trying to avoid an anti-climax.
