I think it is mainly BD+ protection that Slysoft is hunting with their AnyDVD HD proggram that can crack it. And ofc the movie studios are trying to make it better, so it is a cat and mouse game basicly. Which will mean more firmware updates to machines.
And like ps3 is really easy to update but some players might not.

There are three regions for BD: A, B and C. There are very few BD players that could become region free with just the remote. Most of those are only for the DVD regions and not the BD regions. There is a ICOS mod kit that can be installed in most standard BDs that will make the player region free for both DVD and BD. However, it requires soldering of components and how difficult that is depends on the player.

Quote from: DarkAngel;257470You can get a descent blueray drive for a pc for £80 i cant see them getting much cheaper tbh. And i can get the 25gb disc's for £5 each although thats still pretty expensive :(.

I got an LG one fromn Ebuyer for around £65 (DVD was playing up so thought i would upgrade at the same time) it's only a player, but its quicker than the Sony equivalent and also plays HD disks (not that i need it) as soon as i plugged it in and installed the provided drivers, i tried to play a bluray film, didn't work, but there was a 100meg+ patch (which it automatically picked up) and worked fine :)

(sorry for going slightly off topic)

Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?

The wife was out shopping (well, I can't) and some supermarkets do unadvertised deals of 2 for £20. On the PS3, I found the BD Transformers a step above any form of it I've seen before, the wife preferred it to the cinema version. Without having to stand on a sticky popcorn carpet or wade through the toilet.

And we're having the lounge floor relaid, so I can finally replace the speaker cables that got cut when we laid the last one (thanks, dear) so the rear speakers will work again.

Okay, so now my (TV) DVD player has decided not to speak to me anymore (no sound) what bluray player did you get OB?

I went for the Sony BDP-S350

QuoteSlim and stylish this next generation Blu-ray Player makes Home Entertainment as close as it can be to the original theatrical experience â€" with 1080p Full HD picture quality, 24p True Cinema and High Definition surround sound.

Buy it anywhere (170GBP seems to be the cheapest) and register it with Sony before the 15th Jan to get two free BDs - Batman Begins and Casino Royal

I have a Panasonic BD35 that I will make region free this weekend. I can recommend that one as well.

I have the same player here.  Multi-region DVD now, but I decided against going for the chip-mod just yet to make it region-free Bluray too as I do not have any other than 'my region' BD discs.
