Nope they dampen the click sound of the key when you press down on it hard enough that it bottoms out, which everyone does.

Cherry Red keys have no indication when the key is activated. There is no click to hear and no bump to feel. This makes key presses very fast which is the idea for a gaming keyboard. Reds have a feather lite touch and require very little pressure and very little travel before they activate. However getting used to them and changing the way you press the keys can take time and even after a year I still find myself sometimes pressing down on the keys harder than I need to. Also during intense gaming everyone tends to hit keys faster and press down more. This can mean that the sound of the key hitting the base of the switch can make a noise and can be uncomfortable.

The little O rings fit under the keys and cushion them from hitting the switch housing. This makes the feel softer if you do bottom out and quieter. They are entirely optional and lots of people don't bother with them. For a tenner though I think they make typing a little better.

Youtube for the win..... again
