A Twig

Possibly the most irritating, tiresome, monotonous, self-aggrandising game ever yet having bought it aaround lunchtime, I have played 8 hours today, seperated only by a bicycle ride to an evening at the pub.

 :frusty:  :rant:  :ranting:

God I hate myself - currently on the sand/vehicle./irritating bugs level at the moment - I might just cry...

Pull yourself together man.  :angry:  Lesser men than you have bought it, played it through in 25 minutes then cried! Myself? I'm up to somewhere fairly close to the end, can't remember quite where, but I can't summon the will or enthusiasm to carry on. I've had it from day one too! How long is that? One day, one day.

EDIT: Can't have bold and italics  :blush:

I'm with the Doorman. It's crap, I'm near the end, can't be TANGO'd to finish it, that's the pull it has.

Hey, why not set up some sentrys and let them kill everything, or we could overhype the linear gameplay, or we could just boot up Far Cry and see how it should have been done.

I got bored with it.  I stopped playing at a point that sounds similar to the one you are at or near.  It was with the buggy - I winched the buggy up onto the docks, killed the baddies and then started to move up and inland only to be repeatedly killed by some lethal helicopter every time I raced to jump the broken bridge.

If someone provides me with the infromation I need to advance further then I may even pick it up again...............otherwise it will remain unfinished.  And it will still bore me...... :(

I played it pretty solidly from when I got it until before xmas, ... then I was away from my pc for amonth, and haven't played it since. Can't even remember where I got to :)

With the buggy it was all about not stopping until the game forces you to by blocking the road with cars or something... I think. You should normally encounter the helicopter thing near a point where you are able to refuael your rocket launcher so it's not too hard to take down?

The hardest point in the game was when I got trapped in a prison and you get some time to set up defenses bfore wave after wave of soldiers cmoe to attack you, from about 5 directions. I eventually found a bit of a naughty way to get through that though ;)

IIRC, you have to peg the throttle and use the boost on the buggy to jump the bridge.  Hoping the 'copter thing won't nail you whilst you're doing it.  Keep moving, on the other side you follow the road around a left hand bend and there's a load of wrecked cars with a concealed crate of rockets.  Get out of the buggy, hide amongst the wrecks and pepper the 'copter with the rocket launcher until it dies, re-arming when necessary.

I'm with you and Benny, the game's dull.  Nice to look at, and some cool physics, but the linear gameplay and naff storyline makes it extremely one-dimensional.  Far Cry is a far superior single-player shooter.

I wouldn't worry about finishing it too much, the end sequence just plain sucks, probably the biggest let down ever :tumbleweed:

I must say that the ending and final level was way to easy. The only thing that took a while was for me to find out what to do as the last part, figured it out and was done a minute after that.  :(

I finished it - but more so to look at the graphics etc - besides I wanted to nail that rather cute looking bird - Pfffffff that didn't happen

I agree that the ending was a complete letdown - some of hte graphics were cool but the ending was fairly slack.

I occasionally went online for help with the odd-part but in the main it's fairly straightforward - the fact that pretty much every door is locked except from the one you need makes it a tad easier !! LOL

I enjoyed the buggy parts and the boat parts and place like that zombie-town were quite intense... (it's been so long I can't remember the names)

How far through it is that section that I mentioned?  If it is near the end I may be spurred on to complete it, if it is not then I may just give up here and now - I'm not sure I can be bothered to go through to much more of it - I'm losing the will to live! ;)

Here's the levels:

    * Chapter I: Point Insertion
    * Chapter II: Red Letter Day
    * Chapter III: Route Kanal
    * Chapter IV: Water Hazard
    * Chapter V: Black Mesa East
    * Chapter VI: We Don't Go To Ravenholm
    * Ravenholm Part II: Mines & Shorepoint
    * Chapter VII: Highway 17
    * Chapter VIII: Sandtraps
    * Chapter IX: Nova Prospekt
    * Chapter X: Entanglement
    * Chapter XI: Anticitizen One
    * Chapter XII: Follow Freeman
    * Chapter XIII: Our Benefactors
    * Chapter XIV: Dark Energy

You're at chapter VII: You get a rather nice Crossbow a little further one which is great fun to hack 'n' lay with. There's still quite a bit more of that section to go through - and a hasslely bridge thing Im' afraid.

I also think that you've completed the best parts of the game - such as Water Hazrd and Ravenholm.

Flick through the chapter guide if you're interested ( http://www.hlfallout.net/articles.php/walk...49/#walkthrough ) - that'll give you an idea if it grabs you

(Also, if you're bored with playing it but want to stroll through the rest of it, here are the cheats :

I tried that but the soldiers very quickly caught on and simply lobbed a few grenades into the cell.

I also tried setting up barriers around the sentry guns of barrels (boxes break after a few bullets) and that almost worked but keeping the guns upright was hard work!

I eventually settled for climbing up onto a walkway via a few carefully stcked crates etc, setting the sentry guns up at it's edge as I went and then sat up there lobbing grenades at the soldiers. They did a good job of lobbing grenades at themselves too, but occasionally I'd have to rush to pick up a live gren to throw back down...

DuVeL

I just took 1 of them things and placed it infront of one of the rooms with only one entrance, they allways showed up for the entrance and I could hear them come from far so I just had to shoot and pickup their bullets and all if necessary...
