Does anyone knows if you can set ports in windows for cs.
And if yes how can i open some ports.
I still can't open some ports, but i don't know if that are the ports of windows or my new router. :ranting:
And does anyone knows a good site to test the ports????

I have put my windows over my old windows, so perhaps that gould be my problem.

Probly be the router need to open the ports
UDP 1200    (used for friends service)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27039 inclusive
TCP 27040 and 27041 only for CyberCafe Owners

Computers running Dedicated Servers need these ports open:

UDP: 27015 and 27020 (default HLDS, SRCDS and HLTV port)
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

For help on port forwarding for your Router, please consult this excellent website: http://www.portforward.com.

Sorry dude erm the only online port checkers i know of would be for checking that ports are open/closed or stealthed ie for checking that your firewall is working, symantec has one or you could try http://www.grc.com   click on shields up then scroll down again to sheilds up and you can do custom scans or scan common ports etc.  It shows you the result of each port probe as it is running ,but if your firewall is working it shouldnt find any(or they should all be stealthed) so i dont think itll help. Bill Gates mob do a port reporter tool, that might help you more

what is the problem King. are you setting up a server, if not why are you playing with ports on your router?

DuVeL

He's got a new internetconnection from Wanadoo, wanadoo family with a live box. The problem is, he has the new conection but can't play CounterStrike at all. It keeps trying to connect to the chosen server but it fails.

Post your modem/router make and make sure your isp doesn't block or close ports.

Bit of a noobie myself, but aswell as opening ports are you also forwarding them to your machine?

We've been down that route but didn't get anywhere. I'm wondering if it is a personal firewall blocking things.

King

I found something yesterday, i shut down the firewalls (also the one from the router) and it still did'nt work.
When i do a port check i get all ports are stealth.
I don't think thats good. :dummy:

If your firewall is working all ports will show as stealthed which means people doing port scans will not see the ports on your computer which is good. But if you have switched off all your firewalls and the ports are still showing as stealthed something must be masking them that u must be unaware of,maybe windows own firewall. Can i ask which firewall/s you are using? Have you tried deleting the steam and hl launcher/exe and whatever else steam needs to connect to the internet from your firewalls allowed lists and letting the firewalls re learn their access permissions etc? I guessing it may either be firewall related somehow as all your other  programs can access the net OR steam itself has spat the dummy, remove steam and reinstall a fresh copy.

It's not being blocked by a software firewall like Windows SP2 Firewall/Norton/ZoneAlarm is  it?

Norton internet security/zonealarm/mcafee etc. can be turned off from your taskbar by the clock jus right click their icon and choose turn off /disable. The windows firewall is in control panel i think,it may have an icon as well, but i dont use it so cant tell u mebbe TL can help there.
