QuoteApplication for Membership of Charlie Company

PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW INFORMATION AS FULLY AS POSSIBLE

Proposer: Blueball
Seconded by: Darkangel
Seconded by: Benny

Your gaming name: GhostMjr
Your real name: Scott Fergusson
Age:18- 19 on the 26th September
Sex: Male
Country: England
Date of birth:26/09/86

Please tell us a bit about yourself For example, how long you have been playing CS/CZ/CS:S, what interests do you have outside the playing of computer games, what do you do (work/education etc) and any other information you feel would be helpful in order for our members to get to know you.

I am a pretty outgoing person and have been a member of many clubs. Such as my local Golf Club (Bexleyheath), this is a private, club but recently left due to going to university. My interest in golf has far superseded those childhood sports that you were forced to play such as football and I love to watch the likes of Woods and Singh on the greens of St Andrews and Augusta in Georgia USA. I have also had an interest in the cycling and have ridden various time trials in Kent and once rode 10 miles in 30 minutes, which I was pretty proud of to say the least. I was many years ago a beaver, cub and then scout all at my local scout group. On its closing I moved to another local group that was instead the air scouts and so then I became part of yet another community. My outdoor life then forced me to be in camping situations and other situations, which forced me to lead groups of scouts on expeditions and camps. Other interests I pursue for instance skiing are less a part of my life due to the lack of snow in England.
I had a pretty hard childhood with the swapping of schools when I was about eleven from a private school to actually a primary school just round the corner from me. I seemed to always be the outsider and not really accepted until I joined my local secondary school- Cleeve Park and later took my gcse’s. I then moved to Bexleyheath School to do my ‘A’ levels and am now going to study a coastal degree at Bournemouth University.
I have played CS not since the beginning I am afraid and came to half life first before I came to the beloved cs that I was destined to play. My secondary school teacher allowed us to play Quake but on playing half life deathmatch I was hooked and played it at home. Unfortunately we did not have broadband so my experience was very limited. However on getting broadband I started to play cs I didn’t really get it to start off with but then discovered an objective an actual reason for playing but a goal. To win the teams had to essentially work as a team. On playing for a few months I joined a forum named Cigs.nl or as now called comprichie.nl, where I met the [CIGS] clan.
On joining I was with my friends from secondary school and we enjoyed many games with the clan which comprised of both Duvel and IceHawk.
Unfortunately the clan seemed to move away from the cs game objectives I loved and various members left including both Ice hawk and Duvel due to internal member grievances. Despite this I stayed for two further weeks until they started to what it seemed pick on me and spoke extremely rudely to me and to the public on the servers who weren’t Dutch. So Duvel introduced me to Deadmen after being solo for several weeks and I then later came to your LAN in April last year. Enthralled in the whole clan as it had everything I wanted: an active forum, pleasant and friendly members and a respectable amount of admins who enjoyed their games of cs. I seemed to get too wrapped up into this idyllic scenery and this seemed to be one of the impressions that the admins and the other members acknowledged. I am active in the clan I love but in a sense not too active and have to hold my self back from posting too much.

In your own words, how would you explain TCS to an outsider?

To an outsider I would try to not force but explain carefully the TCS method. Many do play to objectives but others do have simple goals such as fragging rather than actually sticking to the objective. However since playing TCS I have realised that working, as a team seems to have a bigger sense of admiration when you plant the bomb and are covered by others. When there is a team rush and you all stick together till the end of the map. There are many different ways I could explain TCS but simply I would say stay with the objective and not go off as a lone frag hunter as their is more to be gained by working as a team and sticking to the objective. The best use of the voicecomms is to use it only when needed or calling of where the enemy is.

What type of player do you think is attracted to TCS?

The more mature player looking for something other than simple frag hunters or younger cs players who are annoying and seem to have no realisation that adults do play the game and want to play it to its fullest meaning completing the objectives and working essentially as a team to one sole goal. It’s hard to put this into words but there seems to be a friendlier atmosphere within our clan than many other clans I have witnessed on other online servers who have no simple respect for their members and sometimes not even the players who play on their. In the clan we work together and the voice communications do seem to help with organisation in round situations. Due to this fact we some how bond with the dmw members and community players by speaking rather than typing. Also it was a change from moving away from those who cheat openly and solely want to seek to damage the whole objectives of CS.Lastly our clan is one of few who I have seen work towards objectives a one that thrives with members respecting each other and seemingly knowing each others faults and weaknesses. For example Sadako, Oldbloke and Tealeaf to name a few have given me a lot of help to actually play cs their way and I hope I can pass on their help to others to help the tcs community.

In the previous question, which of those traits best describe you?

I stick to the objectives and also listen to others. However sometimes I do try to put my own view across if I think my idea may work. When in match situations I listen and follow the leaders instructions such has been the case when Squonk led out team to victory

Which do not best describe you?

I use to frequently forget map boundaries and then began to realise their importance. Now I stay to these objectives and listen to my team mates which have come from being use to the team player roles we have adopted. Sometimes I lacked little skill in some areas of say shooting and my forum abilities which Tealeaf, Oldboke and Sadako assisted me with quite swiftly. I do also miss being on the forum and try to be on it regularly.

Why do you wish to become more involved in our community? Please state which aspects of the next Company appeal to you.

The reason for my application is to become more involved in the clan that I love and to become more of a part of the clan that I love to participate in. The idea of being able to play matches would be nice so that I would be able to play with the clan members I like to play with but also I enjoyed playing the open community events which were somewhat match situations but as it were a taster of what I could play. Also the excitement of being able to play for dmw would be very nice indeed.
The main reason of moving up in the clan is to move up into the clan I love to be a part of.

How do you think you would add value to the dMw community if your application is accepted?

I am very good at organisation and could organise some trips or advise as to other events we could discuss. I am an active part of the forum and hope that my posts are useful and to the point so others can read and hopefully help themselves to solve their problems. Also I am a regular on the servers and play at least four games of counterstrike a day so would be easily able to compete in matches or be more active on the forums. I would also use my experience in cs to help other players to become accustomed to the tcs way of counterstrike. I could if asked moderate forums as I am an administrator for a friend’s site and was an administrator for my schools forum. I could also admin the servers if needed and recently gave much needed assisted to Imy for cs 1.6 matches which he was very appreciative of.

Have you ever been in a Clan before? If yes then which ones and why did you leave?

I have only been in one official clan that was Cigs. I have accounted for why I left above. However to put it more clearly, it was all very well being part of a clan that spoke Dutch but to put it into perspective if they had been more accustomed to my cultures things may have been very different in the clan but the exiling as it were of members who were not Dutch was not a nice idea and I did not want to be a part of a clan that did this to its members. There was also little respect to other members and any real direction that the clan was going in. As Duvel was my close friend I was shocked to hear of the grievances that he had and was another reason for leaving.

The only other clan was way back in the days of Rainbow Six which was run by a close friend of mine it was a maximum of about 10 members and we played regular games and was called Doom. It was never really a big hit and I participated in no actual matches as we never held any. With the lack of objectives and its basic form it was never a great game in my books but I played only because of my friends.

Which other games do you play?

Battlefield 2
Wolfenstein Enemy Territory
Condition Zero, Counterstrike source, cs 1.6
Fps shooters i.e. the newest ones out
At the moment I have completed blue shift and am about to start opposing force
Did paly wow but wasn’t too impressed as I had the usa version and de to the lack of support gave up after my free month.

Do you have any questions for the Admins?(we will endeavour to answer any questions prior to assessing your application)

No other questions just hope to receive an answer soon

Many thanks

I seem to remember us discussing what we should do in this situation (namely one of the people eligible to vote is also the proposer) IIRC we agreed that the person should NOT vote. Therefore, I will be excusing myself from voting.

Over to you guys please?

What do you know about the applicant? For example, how long have they been playing CS/CZ/CS:S, what interests do they have outside the playing of computer games, what do they do (work/education etc) and any other information you feel would be helpful in order for the Admins to get to know the applicant.
GM has been playing CS for a few years and before that HLDM and Quake. As we know he has just gone to Uni so is still quite young (OK so I am jealous). He enjoys Golf (spectating and playing)

Which character traits of the applicant do you think make them suitable for membership or best describe them?
GM is quite possibly more keen to be a Charlie member of dMw than anyone I have ever seen. He desperately wants to be part of the Charlie group and to play matches. He is keen on both CS and BF2 and is willing to get involved in organisation. To be honest I think that his time will be limited at Uni but as he matures and moves on then he may well be a prospect for more responsibilities.

Which traits do not best describe them?
Erudite and cosmopolitan (these were the first 2 words I found in the dictionary). Oh OK then. He's still young and he still has a lot to learn but he loves dMw and what it stands for and desperately wants to feel that he belongs more.

How do you think they would add value to the dMw community if their application is accepted?
He has been knocked back from Charlie membership several times (fairly TBH) as he kept making silly faux pas in the forums but he is persitent where many people would have given up. I told him 6 months ago when he approached me that if he could restrain his posts and only post sensible things and behave in a more mature manner then I would readily propose him. I believe Scot has done this. His posts are now fewer than they were but we can understand them and he tries to post about things that will interest people.

Have they ever been in a Clan before? If yes then which ones and why did they leave?
CIGS - well we all know the history there don't we.

Why did you decide to support their application?
I decided to propose Scott because he did as I asked to reach his goal. He limited his postings to relevant and pertinant topics and has taken greater care over what he does post so that people have a better chance of understanding his point. I haven't seen him on the forums as much but the quality of his posts is greatly improved which was the aim of the guidance he was offered.
I enjoy playing CS with him because he is a quite capable player and tries really hard to back you up when he is on your side.
In short, I like Scott because of his determination to succeed and his decision to try and improve himself and not quit - well done I say he deserves to get in.

What do you know about the applicant?
I always feel a bit odd explaining the stuff you already know. He's about 19, just started uni to study some airy fairy subject and has been round these parts for a fair while now.

Which character traits of the applicant do you think make them suitable for membership or best describe them?
Let's be honest here, when he joined up, he was young/green and fairly sheltered. He was and is the butt of a few jokes, but he does seem to take it all with no problem. I think he has come out of himself a little and think he does have dMw's best interests at heart. He's keen at LANs and wanting to organise social events, he's also pretty much what you see is what you get.
In truth, I never disliked him, but never really liked either if that makes sense, but over the last 6 months, in both his postings and his behaiviour I think he has grown up and is becoming more rounded as a person and a member of the community. He always tries to help, and to a certain extent steps outside his knowledge with grace.

Which traits do not best describe them?
Selfish, conceited, mysterious, dark, moody, magnificent. That's a strange question.

How do you think they would add value to the dMw community if their application is accepted?
See above, I think his heart is in the right place and he is keen.

Have they ever been in a Clan before? If yes then which ones and why did they leave?

Why did you decide to support their application?
For all the reasons above.

This is GM's fourth attempt at joining Charlie and, although having previously said he couldn't apply again, TL and I have allowed this application to progress. The reasons for doing so are evident in the supporting text - he has matured and, in our opinion, deserves another shot at getting the status he so badly wants.

Determined bugger aint he?  :)

I voted yes.

Squonk

I'll pass on voting, as I hanv't been around on the cs/bf2 servers in the past 6mths, so i cant say my view of him as changed.

So i'll leave it up to those that have.

But i still stand by what i wrote in another thread about Ghost M a while ago.

QuoteI just don’t think he is the right kind of person for Charlie, we already have one or two players within Charlie that imo let the good name of dMw down I don’t wish to have any more. So the less we have like this the better.
Me,I\'m just a lawnmower - you can tell me by the way I walk.

He's a persistent TANGO if nothing else and he *has* been far less trouble than he was in the beginning.  He's at Uni now, he seems to be a bit more mature and damn it he's committed to the cause.  I voted no for his first apps, but I have no reason to vote no now.  So I voted yes.

As soon as i saw the post heading i had decided to vote yes just for the fact he is so persistant...God bless him :D

He is harmless... a little nieve (spelling?) but a nice guy, all things which should make a good dMw member.....

I thought new Cs were by invitation only.  :coolio:

Abstain. I can't keep on voting no.  Jeez, the guy's got a thick skin!  :D

If they're by invitation only then we need to change our membership post that said they could apply.  I can;t recall the precise post but I thought it was a case of they could apply *and* we would invite some people.

At the risk of hijacking thread then we ought to discuss this and conclude something 8)
