Yes, played the demo and like GTR of which it is out of the same mould, didn't care for it. I've discovered that racing sims are either loved or hated by people in the race sim community. Whilst not hating it, it didn't *ring my chimes.

*catch phrase from early sixties comedy show 'The Rowan & Atkinson Laugh in'

EDIT: Oh yes, and it employs Starforce. *spit*

I'll let you know what I think of it once I've tried it.

If you have tried it yet go get the demo for S2 ..The feel of the cars (with a wheel) is wonderfull ..

Thing with S2 is, first of all, the cars a 'lookie-likies' - you can tell what they are meant to be but as they don't have teh licences they can't use the brands...

GTL are the real things - proper historicals cars you can recognize and love!

:)

...And secondly, if you really want to get the benifit from S2 you have to buy the licence = £24...

GTL was £18 from Play.com...

So what you gonna buy? The faux-racer at £24 or the real thing at £18?

I've bought GTL!

BUT - I promise to download the S2 demo and make a comparison! Maybe there is something in teh play that makes them different.

A users review - note the GPL comment at the end  :dribble:

Got the UK version 2 days ago.
Enjoying the cups, but thought I'd give the on-line a try this evening.
WOW! My PC is 4 years old, but with graphics turned down it's a solid 30fps, good connection and GREAT races. So close and well matched.
What's good is that I seem to be able to go to circuits that I don't know that well in any car and have a good race. It's so accessible because they all just feel like cars, like they should, not just a computer sim.
First race was a Cooper/Abarth at Anderstorp. Qualified first, slow off the line, down to 2nd, wide and down to 6th - then had so much fun chasing my way back up the field, fastest lap 59.5, then off and last - but what FUN!
Then an open race at Dijon in a Mini again against Cortinas, Alfas, Corvettes. Qualified 6th, lost some places at start, then clawed my way up to 4th as others spun off. Had a great dice with a Corvette taking 2s off me down the straight, then losing it again round the twisty bits. Ended up 4th with a 1.40 fastest lap. What a car that Mini is.
This is the new GPL for me - rFactor and LFS are amateurish and GTR multiplayer shamed. All it needs is a better on-line interface (VROC-like )and quicker menus.

Ranger

What makes GTL interesting for me is being able to race all those 60s cars I remember fondly...

It's not so much that 'this race game is better than that race game' - it's more about the cars.

Although GTL DOES look like a good game too! Which helps!

:)

Cortina Mk. I - Yummy! LOL

Loved it,haveing worked around British/American classics as a panel beater(many moons ago),I can authenticate the engine and handling traits of the 3 in the demo.Spot on imho. :dribble:

Well I've had now spent a few hours on the game proper and I like it a lot. The graphics are awsome. Because its a sim I'm nowhere near decent on driving the two cars you get to start off (you have to win races either singleplayer or online to earn cash to buy new shiney cars  :dribble: . Though playing it on the middle level I've already won two races in the mini, so I guess the difficulty level is set about right.

9Slice who has played this and LFS said he really likes GT Legends, though he does think the handling is more difficult.

Highlight for me last night in the mini, was driving into a sweeping corner at about 70, I dabbed the brake, turn the wheel harder into the corner, apply the accelerator and drifted sideways setting myself up nicely for the apex and exit - fantastic feeling when you get it right, unfortunately I only got it right that once - but hey I watched about 20 times on the replay

My next races are in a Lotus Cortina, I love these old cars, so much more character than modern cars.

Doorman, you've got to give this game a go mate, its only £18 from //www.sendit.com, surely worth a go? As our resident driving expert I'd like to see what you think of the finished game.  :)

Doorman

Played the demo, wasn't impressed. Bought GTR, played it exclusively for a month or so, ditched it. Bought rFactor, played it for a week or three, haven't quite got to the point of ditching it but won't bother with online again. I sure as hell ain't gonna give anymore of my money to Simbin/ISI They all have the same feel to them and the interface/accessability sucks. In my experience racing games/sims are not about the cars(Oo oo Lotus Cortina!) it's about the racing. Once you get past the eye candy and make no mistake, I'm a sucker for eye candy, all those products leave me cold. LFS is the driving sim of choice. For me anyway.

Good job we're all different. :D

Oh yes, I forgot Starforce.

Dewey

So Doorman did you bite the bullet and get GTL? What do you think of it?

Have you got the mini to drift sideways yet, fantastic  :D

I won the first two mini races but aren't doing very well with the lotina  :)  How you doing? I also haven't played online yet. All the big guys have it, so perhaps in a month we could set a game up  :)
