Baldric Useage

OK, so Baldric has been open for a little while now and I thought it worth revisiting. My own thoughts are that it has not been used at all, with the exception of a few small games by dMw people who deliberately 'over-spilled' into Baldric before MH became full. On the other hand, the MH games have become more PCS again with the max players limit set at 16.

I'm happy with MH (apart from when I can't get into the game), but how do we deal with the zero Baldric population? - this was a problem N42 never overcame with their second PCS server.

Possible solutions include:

- make Baldric public
- use the public server to promote the benefits of PCS
- make all dMw Admins on Baldric only, so that they can police such public play and exult PCS at the same time
- deliberately join Baldric to see if anyone notices and joins

Any others?

I think that's worth trying.

It would give us somewhere to practice our match skills without having to visit CBM etc.

I think it goes without saying that our team-based deathmatch attitude would win over players to PCS.

OK, so what about you other Admins eh? To paraphrase a famous presenter, "Any thoughts, and comments, any anecdotes?"

Is Crosswired happy to make Baldric a public training/inticement ground for MHPCS?
Can we make all dMw members Admins on Baldric only and keep just the current Admins as Admins on MH?
I assume that this will mean that you will need to strip down the configs or do whatever with the server Doggers?
Should we place psychostats on Baldric - it seems to entice a fair few to return to cbm?

I personally do not like the idea of making it public.

It will be a nightmare to manage for anybody and all i can see is complaints and more work for admins.
Keep it as a back-up if MH overflows and a match server.

We could make it a passworded non-PCS server to stop the lamers.

Putting a pw on it would stop the passing trade that we may want to convert to PCS though?

This is the problem, we currently have more people than PCS games can hold who want to play on MH. We want to attract more so that we run 2 PCS-sized servers, but how? :?

We currently have a pw-protected second server. But it isn't used, even by the MHPCS people, so where do we go now? What do we want?

Whatever happens I think we should post some notices over at N42 if they shit-can the PCS server, just so that we get some overspill back into our servers. ANyone know yet if the server is going or is it just a aname change?

Why are we trying to get more people to convert to PCS we have quite a few already more will come by just knowing of us and playing against us.
We have quite a few people on here already and we dont want to have to come up against the same problems we had last time where people had to overflow to Baldric and as i have now noticed we have lost quite a few people lately.

I personally like playing with the same people and i would be a little peeved if we had so many new people on that i cant play with my teamates/Freinds. When it kicked off with the new members joining i couldnt even get onto MH on a few nights but i couldnt get on i would have a look at baldric and see only new members or not many people so didnt bother.

"Dont fix what isnt broke" i like that saying and i try to live by it we have enough members and enough regulars, too many people turns PCS into frag hunt and that is not why i play here.

As for the Non-PCS server that really isnt us is it?

if we want that we go play on CBM for a bit to get the mindless killing out of our system and then go back to old faithfull MH.

I like playing with the same peeps as well Smite, but this is why I asked in my post "What do we want? Where do we want to go from here?".

We currently restrict the number fo people on the server to enhance PCS - at the request of the players. So we are currently stopping people like you and me playing PCS. If MH is full when you try to get your game, woudl you want the choice to be on a second 16 player server, or just get no PCS? I know that if every time I joined MH I found it to be full I would pretty soon stop trying. Maybe that's why you have noticed that we have lost some people? OTOH I haven't noticed that we've lost people particularly? Have we?

How do we welcome the 'server full' people back into the community and encourage them to play more? Do we want them to play more PCS with us? These are the questions we need to answer.

Whatever we do we need to decide here. Maybe we just leave the thing as it is currently amended and give it a bit more time?

I'm against any form of growth at the moment until we can get the admin tools working correctly!

It makes it a pain to admin when you can't talk directly to the player to say that you're out of bounds or something.

Before we even think of changing/opening/pimping the servers we need to get these tools working.

The problem with making Baldric public (from a Crosswired POV) is the cost of bandwidth. Currently, we don't charge for blackadder's bandwidth usage, but making Baldric a 24/7 public will cost us in bandwidth charges - especially if it gets popular.

Perhaps the (an?) answer might be for dMw players to "prefer" Baldric over MH as their first choice server when joining for "casual" or "practice" play...?

So the choices:-

Make Baldric Match server only - Well we can keep it as that anyway and kick people off for matches.

Have a Non-PCS server - i personally wouldnt like this as we are a PCS clan but if people just want to test out tactics for match purposes then i cant see any problem for that reason.

Custom map server -Have bizzare weird Rats type maps and stuff on again as in the old days - My personal liking

Incorporate all 3 and have done with it

A hotel gib style custom map rotation server would be cool and I think this will also help to balance out the population as some people may like to try some custom maps, where others prefer the standard.
