Sorry to here the server had some bad apple on it last night Ranger. I'll get the server messages sorted when I get home tonight.

I didn't get on the server until 9 last night and it had 32 people on (anybody know why it is so busy at the moment)

We could do with the "you get kick if your not in a squad" plugin Installed on the serve again. Maybe set to 5 minutes rather than 60 seconds this Time.

If the server stays this busy. what do you think we should do if the serve is full and dMw/regular members can't get on? I know we have never had a policy of kicking people off servers to make room for members. But BF2 public to a lot different to CS/meathook

Anonymous

The possibility exists within BF2 to give preference to tags (e.g, -=[dMw]=-) but this would obviously inconvenience Alpha members of our community. We can password the server as we did on Monday night so that only community members that have registered with our forum are able to see the password. Obviously this reduces the opportunity for good people to drop by on spec and realise they like what we do here however it would be my preferred method (as opposed to tag filtering)

Open for discussion, what are the good ideas peeps?

Cadaver

Hmmm, tricky.  What do we want?  To showcase the community by putting up a public, or have a private server to preserve gameplay?  I'll speculate the reason we're getting so much attention at the moment is because our server hardware kicks some serious buttock, and probably appears at the top end of the server browser.  Anyone confirm this?

When we were predominantly CS, Meathook was always passworded yet we still managed to grow the community.  When the public Razer was put up as well, did we really get that many more recruits?

Passwording could be the best way to go for now.  Although, we probably would need the Deadmen homepage updated to reflect we're a multiple game community (I guess there are already plans in motion for this?), so anyone who happens across the server can find out what we're about.

If we decide to stay public, then:

How's about we get a defintive list of all admins for the BF2 server and plonk that in the BF2 forum section.  Protect it, so that only Alpha Co. members and up can see it (like what already happens with the CS password).  Community members wanting a game, but can't get on, can then contact an admin directly who can make a decision on which pubbie to kick?

Suggest everyone who plays BF2 uses Xfire as the means of contacting an admin in game?

Adjust server message to say that public players may be kicked in favour of -=[dMw]=- regulars, and to see our website on how to become one.

or

|TG| have some scripts which kick the longest playing public player, in favour of a supporting member (person who pays to keep their community moving forward).  It's  based on an ID flag you set in your forum profile.  Maybe ask Wulfyn (as he's a BF2 admin over there) how that works exactly, and whether we could pilfer it?

Och, it wasn't so much that they were bad apples mate - just that they treated the dMw server like they would any other ranked server. SO there was base raping - vehicle raping - heavy amounts of bombing, etc, etc.

I don't know what everyone else's view on this is but I come to dMw to relax and have a 'civilized' game with mates.

Yes, it was nice to see so many people on the server - but when they flaunt the spirit of dMw it turns me off.

I said to the guys in my squad - when it was suggested that we complain about the way these guys played - not to bother because it will just sound like sour grapes. So I just finished the game and then left.

I have found that most 'clan' servers have a server notice which say that guests may be kicked to make room for clan members.

In conclusion (sorry to drone on) one additional proble last night was that some of these guys did not speak English - so we couldn't even communicate to them that they were not adhering to our rules!

What do we do in this case....Arbitrary kicks?

We could put up two servers? One with each setting?

Indeed. :withstupid: also. I think if we had two servers running like this there'd just be one public server that no DMW regulars went on unless they wanted a bit of a game and the other server was empty (probably due to no other DMWs being about), and the other server that we'd all use during the more 'regular' matches. I think that if you got even as few as 6 regulars on the public server they'd leave and just have a 3v3 match with actual teamwork! on the other server, rather than play through a 64 player map with the average players out there.

Of course, i might be being a bit harsh on the average player, and have a lower tolerace for it than you guys  ;) I need good teammates to prop me up so I can sponge assist points off you

Yeah, but not always. There are times when it is empty, or very few people. Me and mono is an hour later than you guys, for instance. Instead of searching for another server, I could play on a dmw-hosted server, and maybe with at least a few dmw's, combined with whoever joins? Such a server could promote dmw?

We could have a server graphic referring to the homepage like now, and have the in-game announcements refer to the homepage? And the good thing for you with admin powers, is that you have a full server at hand, which you have the right to kick people from :) But then again, I don't know how much guys you play outside dmw. I do a little, but always check dmw first. But if dmw's all checked the open server once in a while, there might be just a few - and then I would join that server :)

Sn00ks

I think the kicking of players for dMw peeps is probably the best way to go.

Ok the first game we got our bottoms prodded, but on the second one we returned the favour and worked really well as a aquad. Pushed them back all the way to the Woodyard and won!

BF2 works best with more players, especially on the larger maps and as there aren't enough regular dMw players we need some pubbers to fill the ranks.

To prevent base rodgering and generally unacceptable behaviour I think we need to have some pre-defined server messages and maybe some more admins to police it?  Most people are sensible and if they see that someone actually cares then they'll join in.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

suicidal_monkey

either kicking of people to allow dMw people to join, or passwording the server just like CS and CZ when you had to sign up on the forums to get the password etc...

Or reserved slots with some sort of password to get into one of said slots? Dunno if that's possible, but it used to be on CS 1.5 era CS-servers I think? Somehow? :) I'll shut up now

Sounds like a plan? More admins with kicking rights then? :learn:

big-paddy

I have joined some servers where a number of slots preserved for members. Pubbies can use them, but get kicked if a member wants to join. It appears automatic. Is that what TG use?

This seems best to me.

Reagrding the play when pubbies outnumber dMw. I dont think anyone who joins the server and does not see many -=[dMw]=- tags will believe that the game is being played in the dMw way. However if the server has a lot of dMw's they can and should expect a dMw style game. So dont sweat the way it plays when we're not home. Anyone with a beef can join the community and post the admins.

Dewey

Last nights game sucked when pubbies started base raping and its pretty sad to see dMw guys leave their own server because of this.

Problem is if you make the server public, how do you stop people base raping? There was loads of it last night and it continued throughout the game.

I'd go for quality over quantity any day of the week, I'd rather play the dMw way than the dross we played last night (obviously not all the pubbies where). Lets face it if you like playing games like last night, theres lots of public ranked servers out there to play on.

On public ranked servers list, the number in brackets to the right of the the number of players on the server is the reserved number. This reserved number are places reserved exclusively for squad members of that clan. We could do that?

Armitage

what we don't want to see by passwording the server is "Dwindling numbers on the dMw server" It's a fine line to tread.

I did end up having a good game last night (Dragon Valley). I was in a dMw squad, we had a good SL (sorry forget who) we worked together and won. So If the server is busy, as long as we make dMw squads. I think we can have fun.

We can have reserved spots. but we have so many members we would have no slots left for Joe public :)
