Application for Membership of Charlie Company

PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW INFORMATION AS FULLY AS POSSIBLE

Proposer: BlueBall
Seconded by: Norm
Seconded by: Armitage

Your gaming name:-=[dMw]=-Dewey-x(wouldn't accept name without the x on it)
Your real name: Simon Dewey
Age: 35
Sex: M
Country: UK
Date of birth: 04/02/1970

Please tell us a bit about yourself. For example, how long you have been playing CS/CZ/CS:S, what interests do you have outside the playing of computer games, what do you do (work/education etc) and any other information you feel would be helpful in order for our members to get to know you.

I've been playing BF2 since they launched the BF2 demo so I guess thats over 6 months now.

Other interests include badminton which I play 2 or 3 times a week at league level. I captain the University of Hull, Staff Badminton Team, and last year we won promotion.

I used to play competition paintball, and played a for a few well known teams, winning many compeitions and trophies, playing and marshalling at the European Masters against international competition, and appearing in international paintballing magazines.

I think paintball helps my FPS game - I'm always looking to flank people, trying to coming at them on their blindside and I'm equally aggressive in a FPS as I was on the paintball field where I played as a tape player - a paintballing adage serves me well on BF2 - "Your usually taken out by the person you can't see so always look left, right and behind"

I also have a keen interest in cars and have modified my 1991 mx5, to achieve a recorded 210 rwhp (approx 230 bhp at the flywheel) - to do this I had to research, learn and apply mechanical skills to my 5 - I've fitted a turbocharger, programmable ECU, diff, flywheel, suspension, brakes etc. My car appeared on 5th Gear a few months ago - I was invited to vMax 7, which is billed as the fastest car club on earth - fantastic cars there and I got to go in Lambo Muircelago and other exotica, very nice.

I have a degree in Architecture though my profession is a Web and Multimedia Designer which I taught myself. I've worked at The University of Hull for over 7 years . Alos Paddy and I run a limited company specialising in web design and databases which has been running successfully for a number of years.

I enjoy going to the cinema (once a week) and music (I have to listen to music every day). I also like learning about new technology. I'm extrememly sociable and can often be found at my friends houses.

In your own words, how would you explain TCS to an outsider?

TBF2 makes use of good communications and teamwork augumented by tactics and a strategic overview of the game to achieve a given goal.

What type of player do you think is attracted to TCS?

Mature players who are tired of the free-for-all nature of ranked servers. Players who wish to improve their tactical and strategic ability through teamwork while doing so in a relaxed and friendly environment. Competitive players who wish to try their mettle against other communities or clans.

In the previous question, which of those traits best describe you?

A player who believes teamwork will always beat skilled individuals, who enjoys the cameraderie of being in a community and is open to new ideas and willing to learn and improve.

Which do not best describe you?

I find it hard to describe which traits do not relate to myself as I believe in the values that dMw and TBF2 encourages. If I don't currently adhere to all of these values they are what I aspire too in the future.

Why do you wish to become more involved in our community? Please state which aspects of the next Company appeal to you.

First I think dMw has given me a many hours of enjoyment.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the number of friends I've made in the community and the sense of pride I get by playing well next to my dMw team mates.

I believe the dMw ethos (attitude, teamwork and fun) and the forum is what makes the difference between our community and others I have been part of or visited. It doesn't matter if we have the best players or not, its enough that I know I can trust them and they can trust me - and I feel thats important.

I believe by becoming a Charlie member I can continue to promote the dMw ethos to other players. I hope to become more involved in tactical discussion and informative posts to the community via the forums.

I would also like to represent dMw in compeitive matches against other communities or clans. I feel I could learn new skills from playing alongside Charlie teammates.

How do you think you would add value to the dMw community if your application is accepted?

Continue to promote the dMw ethos to non and existing members through my actions and attitude in games and on the forum. Contribute regularly to forum discussions on both tactical and community based issues and support the community through monetary contributions for new equipment as I've done in the past.

I will (greatfully) attend all up and coming LANs and be an active member of the community both in games and via the forum.

I can offer advice or help to members where I'm able to do so on issues unrelated to gaming, whether thats a simple thing like creating graphics for the forum banner or an individuals tag such as Duvel's to offering technical advice on design.

I would like to represent the community in compeitive matches.

Finally I would hope that my actions would encourage new members to aspire to become more involved in the dMw community - as others have done for me.

Have you ever been in a Clan before? If yes then which ones and why did you leave?
SWAF

I was a member of SWAF (Seawolves) and they where a friendly very organised community specialising in the 'Military way' playing Operation Flashpoint.

SWAF played many compeitive matches in league ladders etc and I lucky to be play in some of these matches.

We used to have training days to prepare for matches and to explore different ideas.

The admissions process was extremely arduous with many stages involved and a high level of commitment required to be accepted to SWAF eg dropping you on a map and finding your way to various way points just using a compas and landscape features, this was timed and overlooked at every stage by superiors. Another test involved hitting a high number of targets on a range in a set time limit.

I stopped being a member of SWAF as the community itself became less active due to new games emerging and subsequently many of the members left.

BIG

This wasn't really a clan as such, more a collection of like minded friends who wished to play in a more organised teamwork environment and have now found themselves a part of the dMw community.

We decided to join a larger community as we wished to play more often with mature players. Ranger and I looked around and where initially going to join Tactical Gamer, however we noticed that they are US based and as such it would be more difficult to play on their server due to time differences. I then saw a link to dMw. We liked the communites values and have been here ever since.

Which other games do you play?

Generals and Zero-Hour, FM2006, GT Legends, COD2, I also enjoy board games and card games particularly Texas Holdem.

Do you have any questions for the Admins? (we will endeavour to answer any questions prior to assessing your application)

No.

QuoteWhy I am Supporting This Application:

PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW INFORMATION AS FULLY AS POSSIBLE

Proposed: DEWEY
Your Name: BlueBall

What do you know about the applicant? For example, how long have they been playing CS/CZ/CS:S, what interests do they have outside the playing of computer games, what do they do (work/education etc) and any other information you feel would be helpful in order for the Admins to get to know the applicant. I know he is part of the group of guys who called themselves BIG and that he works at Hull University. He is a regular on the forums and on the server and has a solid mature attitude in his gameplay and in his posts. To be precise, I LIKE playing BF2 with him - he adds to the enjoyment of the game.

Which character traits of the applicant do you think make them suitable for membership or best describe them? The one I already mentioned; the fact that you want to play on the server with him - thats the idea of dMw - a group of people that you would want to spend quality gaming time with. He has a good sense of humour too :)

Which traits do not best describe them?Any of the words that dMw don't like - frag whore, loner, etc, etc.

How do you think they would add value to the dMw community if their application is accepted?By adding to the growing number of people we can look for on a server. He is also keen to play competitively if we ever get good enough at BF2 :roflmao:

Have they ever been in a Clan before? If yes then which ones and why did they leave?Yes. I knew about his membership of BIG (which was more a small community of like minded guys as opposed to a Clan) and he was also a amember of a more serious gaming clan whose name escapes me at the present.

Why did you decide to support their application? As previously mentioned, he is one of the people that makes me want to join a dMw server :) I can't give better praise than that.

As Dewey as only been around for abour 5 months, and I dont play BF that often, (I dont think ive ever spoke to him) , so I dont know him, i'll leave it to those who know him when it comes to a vote

Just a thought
5 months is that long eonugh?
All other charlies have been around for at least a year or more so we know them quite well .

Bloody night shift ! this is the second thread ive posted this in  :D
If this post makes no sence i blame it on the two hours kip ive managed to get  ;)
Me,I\'m just a lawnmower - you can tell me by the way I walk.

Bravo requires 3 months in Alpha and Charlie requires 2 months in Bravo (link) so I guess 5 months is the minimum.

It wouldn't be enough time for everyone but I'm comfortable enough with several of the "formerly known as BIG" guys to let them go forward now -  a couple of them keep a low profile but the majority are just the type of people we want to attract (IMHOOC) ;)

OK, just noticed a possible oops here. There are two threads covering Bravo/Charlie membership one I have linked to above states 2 months required for Charlie the other (link) states 3 months required. Consequently we seem to have a small problemette!

Thoughts?

Squonk

QuoteMembership can be applied for once Bravo Company membership has been held for at least 3 months
thats what i thought

But i still like the WE invite them better btw ;)

Dewey has a degree in something, but its nothing to do with web design, his current job. Plays badminton to a high standard. Not long since been married.

Which character traits of the applicant do you think make them suitable for membership or best describe them?

Level headed, sociable, willing to put himself out for other members, actually remembers its only a game.

Which traits do not best describe them?

How do you think they would add value to the dMw community if their application is accepted?

Carries the dMw values of teamwork, fairplay and behaviour onto every server I have joined him on. Regular contributor to quality content on forums in many of the sections.

Have they ever been in a Clan before? If yes then which ones and why did they leave?

Dewey played operation flashpoint with a clan called Swaf which had a rigourous enrollment program. As newer games came along the clan became less active so he left. BIG was more a group of friends looking for the same thing in there gaming. Think they had a toss up between TG and dMw,but being this side of the pond we got the draw.

Why did you decide to support their application?

I decided to support Dewey in his application as I find him a pleasure to talk to, has no insane ego that could land him/dMw in trouble. He has the mature attitude we look for in our members.

Just waiting for Armitages feedback - have spoken to him and he will get it to me tomorrow

Added the poll to get things rolling. As his proposer I will abstain from voting.

Doorman

He's dropped the BIG and is committed to dMw, what more can you ask? Good man.

I knew you were going to and I knew I had to. I just didn't know who HAD ;)

smite

Abstain.
All the BIG guys were nice when meeting them at the LAN and what i have seen on the server but i don't have enough knowledge to say wether they are Charlie material.

What does Charlie status mean to BF2 players?

Do we need to look at the classes again?
