My biggest problem so far is to remember to reload before trying to shoot someone. Usually I end up firing one round, then waiting for the reload, getting shot.

It would be nice to be able to hit something with the riflebutt..

*nods* how many times have I come across someone with their back to me, only to fire  a few stray  shots and then click, the guys turns round and kills you.

Now I always try and make sure I reload before turning a corner and at any opportunity when I'm safe. I still forget occaisionally  :D

The problem I have with that is unless i'm very much mistaken in BF2 a reload loses you all the ammo currently in your clip. In other games i have a tendency to reload whenever I can, in BF2 I only do it when I get down to <10 rounds in a 30 round smg clip, for eg, and if i'm not too accurate that has caught me out too. But without a commander we don't get ammo drops, and I don't often seem to find people to resotck from (who is it who restocks? Support?)

Not a problem mate, just kill someone and nick their kit. As I've started with no unlocks on ranked servers, I do this all the time - its actually quite exciting, bit like a lucky dip - wondering what cool unlocked weapon your going to get - or not  :D

Yes, I rely on Norm - he does a good service, is curteous and really good value.

I have tried other support but been left very disappointed.

I believe there is now a Family Size Norm - for all your squad's support needs!

...And later this year there will be a 'Winter Breeze' Norm with gentle hint of pine needles and chestnuts.

i complained to the Norm 24hour customer hotline once to point out that their on site representative 'Norm' had a habit of shooting me in the face despite being on his side - i was told this was a fault with the current model of 'Norm' and an update should be available soon. When I asked what buttons i have to press to stop him taking the pi** about the sinking jeep they just hung up

:roflmao: If people are going to post this sort of thing i have to stop reading DMW at work. I get dodgy looks from the boss when I start to giggle to myself. I shall have to just read it when he's not about, same as I do with bash.org ;)

The Norm has its drawbacks(like shooting Boris in the face.....is that a drawback?).But its still the best you can buy.(No Benny not for that) :D

Heheh, it's always a pleasure to read this forum :D

I too have a really bad habit of starting to shoot at someone with only 6-7 shots left in the clip. Then they turn around and start firing at you while you're trying to reload (the TANGO'S) and you very rarely end up still being alive after an encounter like that. However, switching to the pistol, as mentioned elsewhere, really is a good trick. I managed to do this trick some days ago, switching to the gun while being shot at, and popping two shots in the other guys head. There. Done. One shouldn't underestimate the power of the pistol...

Another thing is that the mouse wheel switches really fast while still allowing the freedom of movement - at least with the key setup I'm using.

At the moment I use the left mouse button to fire and obviously to aim. The downside of using the mouse for both shooting and movement/sighting is that when you press fire you move the mouse slightly and can move your curser off target, you then have to resight the sight over your target before beginning to fire again - I appreciate this all happens in tenths of seconds.

My thinking is this should allow me to keep the sights over the enemy, shoot and then once the recoil of the weapon has gone, be bang on my target again and shoot them, without the need to make minor corrections with the mouse.

I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on this, has anyone else tried it?

Just to bring this thread back up, and back to the original topic, I tried binding fire to a keyboard key near my movement keys tonight on the SF server (it involved some key shuffling. Apologies to the people I kept shooting when trying to climb into their vehicle). When I actually remembered i'd done it, and used the keyboard instead of the mouse button to fire, my accuracy seemed much improved. I normally see a little jerk when I fire (moreso than what the game adds). Maybe I just grip my mouse too hard (oor err missus); I didn't see it when firing using the keyboard. And I certainly seemed to be doing better on kills than I normally expect.

Most noticeable with the SpecOps primary weapon and the Anti-Tank machine gun. I seemed as unable as ever to hit anyone with the sniper rifles ;)

Thing is, even if I move the sensitivty right down (which makes playing the game impossible), I still notice this jerk when firing with the mouse, but it's not like I ever see it when clicking buttons on the Windows desktop or similar. Can anyone offer an explanation for that? Tenseness of the game?

Hi Carrot, thanks for posting your findings.

I tried it only briefly - I'll try it again. I did notice that recoil is simulated in the game and is different for each weapon.

I think thats the reason I like the first medic unlock its recoil is very slight compared to say an AK47.

Boris

seriously thinking about moving my mouse-fire to a key too!!!
